Re: Tek 492 is way off in frequency
That's way off and of course not adjustable, it's a fundimental failure but sound fixable. First check the 100 MHz is really 100, which can be done from the ref out without opening anything. Then its documentation time and checking power supplies. It's tuning but not evenly, 23% off, then less so for higher freqs. That fact and as the older units don't have good stabilization it's most likely something analog in the yig control loop. The good news is that the older 492s are simpler than the later models. At some point you may need a counter to dig into the phase gate but as this is so far off I bet you can get results with a scope and basic dvm. Board extenders will be necessary if serious trouble shooting is required.

Tek 492 is way off in frequency
Good afternoon,
I have a Tek 492 spectrum analyzer that is way off in frequency. A 100 MHz signal shows up at 77 MHz on the display. 1000 MHz is at 908. 2500 MHz shows up at 2291. And so on. Is there a simple way to adjust this, or should I just use a lookup table and deal with it? Thanks and 73, David W9HQ |
RM564B non-working fan
I am currently working up a RM564B ?- seems to work OK except the fan doesn’t go round.
It’s not jammed, it spins freely by hand, and ?the blades are not hitting anything (there is no guard or dust filter ). Before I tear into it, does it only run if the instrument overheats ? ?No manual that I can find – TekWiki has it on their Wanted List. Many thanks Tim Sent from Mail ( ) for Windows |
Re: Anyone with a 576? VBE decreases in active region?
The first instant of junction heating takes place in one dimension, where it is just the junction itself heating and heat is not spreading yet. Then the heat spreads in 2-3 dimensions depending on the transistor layout. The dimensionality determines the rate of temperature rise at a given time point. The more dimensions heat is spreading in, the slower the temperature rises. The number of dimensions starts out small and then rises. Finally we encounter convection, which adds an even more gradual rise in temperature since thermal resistance is decreasing as temperature is rising.

So the first corner in the heating waveform may correspond to one of those thermal boundaries, junction to substrate, die to case, case to ambient, etc. On Monday, April 29, 2024 at 11:34:00 AM CST, Miguel Work <harrimansat@...> wrote:

Re: Sampling scope plugins
Hey there,
the 80E03 is both mechanically and electrically incompatible with the 11 Sampling scopes, even when the connector itself is the same. The 80E03 uses a derivative of TekProbe, called TekProbe-Sampling, while the SD-xx series Plug ins have more in common with the old S-x series sampling heads, the 80Exx series has actually more in common with other TekProbe Level 3 Probes like the P7k series. You will need a TDS8000 series Mainframe to have it working. It seems to have the same pinout, and the sampler looks the same. |

Thanks Albert, now is corrected:
Hi, here are the results of my setup, when pulsed Vce increases, Vbe decreases. Due to the shape of the delay, it seems like a thermal effect. Re: Manual for 134 probe amplifier
Thank you, Adam, I knew I was missing a critical bit. Yes, the SAE connector, that is, Society of Automotive Engineers, the same group that created our oil viscosity standards. When mechanical constraints force you to put the connector inline in the cable, it's not a bad choice.

The same setup but a low speed and at more base current, 50uA.
It is as if there were two thermal effects, one at high speed and the other at low speed. /g/TekScopes/photo/294446/3776621?p=Created%2C%2C%2C20%2C0%2C0%2C0 |

Pulsed Vce (2v offset, 10V amplitude) and Vbe, with Ib=10uA (fixed)

Re: Manual for 134 probe amplifier
Well, that confirms Tek made it, for sure. Thanks, I was not aware of this late version before this conversation. You might contact the VintageTek Museum, they have a big stock of manuals.
Our own Jim Adney added that photo to TekWiki just last year. Note the serial number in the 30000's. Not conclusive but a small piece of evidence. That made me think yo look in the Tektronix catalogue. The 1990 catalogue shows a picture of the 134 with the wall wart and that bullet connector. I will add that to the picture gallery. All I need to do now, is to find one of those connectors. Nick |
