Hi:
It seems the Army one has a reasonable operator's section (Chapter 4?). What part isn't detailed enough?
My question is why: what can one do with a 50 MHz (1 mega-sample) logic analyzer...that you can't do with a cheap p.c. based one? (Am I missing something fun?)

This generator was designed as a sales tool, to be used to demonstrate a particular feature in the TDS600 series which had a competitive advantage at the time. I don't recall the feature, perhaps InstaView - a probability density display feature that allows differentiation of portions of the waveform that occur at significantly lower rep rate than the the portion which repeats every acquisition. Most modern DSO incorporate tools similar to this today.

As it only generates on-y this one signal solely for a pre-sales demonstration, this generator is not particularly useful for general use.

After researching the source of this 7104 manual FEB 1989 I see that I did buy it from QSERVICE Nikolaos Kapetanakis for $US 9.49.
So I don't feel good at all in sending this PDF to anyone and/or making it available on TEKWIKI and I am NOT going to do this.

This is a great copy that took some time to scan and QSERVICE deserves to make money on this just like Artekmanuals.

I would ask all of you to go to QSERVICe at www.qservice.tv and pay him for a copy.
At least those of you who need this latest manual now know where to get a copy.

Users on the TEK500 group suggested I re-post this here.

For those interested, I have been working on a DC508 display replacement board starting with a design from Steve M. that was I think was derived from Paul's design from back in 2013. Basically I made changes to the board for fit and to put all of the SMT parts on the display side in the correct orientation. The diodes that isolated the decimal points were changed to dual diodes in series to slightly reduce the brightness. Also added 100 ohm series resistors in line with the display segment drive lines in case the brightness there needed adjusting. I still have to reduce the brightness of the discrete LEDs, even the low output LEDs of today are brighter than the originals TEK used. For now I will likely just change the resistors on the DC508 main board or add resistors in series in line on the LED cable harness. I think that the Mouser LED I have on the BOM now should be less bright than the ones I currently use, but have not purchased any yet to try.

I have two assembled boards and 8 extra bare boards. Note: board finish is tin/lead HASL, not RoHS compliant.
All parts are in stock and available at Mouser for about $30.
I can supply the remaining bare boards for $20 each plus shipping.

These are all SMT parts except for the headers...
I have not decided on a price yet for the assembled boards, they take about 2 hours to build..

To use option 7, you will have to add the components to the multiplier board, including the two ribbon cable connectors. You will then need to make up the mating cables and solder the wires to points on the main circuit board. There may also be some trace cuts on the main circuit board. The DC508 manual should have a section on option 7 and how it interconnects with the main board. Getting the manual for the DC508 is the first step...

Solved....

After tearing into the PG506 for a while and re-verifying the divider networks to no avail, I discovered a bad BNC cable between the 3456A and GenCal resistor decade I was using. The darn thing had 38K¦¸ of resistance between the center conductor and shield - just enough to load down the network I was testing. That drove me crazy for days...

I figured I would post it here to close this out and not just leave it hanging in the breeze which irritates me, and others may learn from it - verify your test gear always ;)

Does anyone have a PDF of this available? The Service Manual (military version) is available on the Internet but as indicated, I'm looking for the Operator's Guide.
A Reference Guide seems to exist as well. That too could be helpful.

I will check the power supply for ripple and invest in a LCR meter to check the capacitors. It seems they make 100 kHz LCR meters you can check capacitors in circuit, maybe I will take a look at that.

Note that exceeding this cycle count does not necessarily mean the connector would fail, but rather the specifications for contact resistance would not necessarily be met after 25 cycles.

Tek mitigated this short life by treating the male mating fingers on the edge of the plug in. If you look closely at any TM500/5000 plug-in, 5000 series scope plug-in and the Tek made extender cables, you will note several things. First, the fingers themselves are gold plated with 100 micro inches of hard gold over a nickel plate. Copper and nickel are much harder that hard gold and will deform it when mated. More important, the mating edge is treated in two manners. First, it is chamfered to a 45 degree angle with a carbide router bit by the board fabricator. This is essential to prevent the exposed glass fibers from the board edge from scraping the gold off the connector. Again, a single mating with an epoxy glass circuit board into one of these connectors can remove considerable amount of the gold plating from the connector, rendering if venerable to corrosion in high humidity environments.
While the chamfering reduces the likelihood of glass scraping the connector when mating, the step where the circuit board foil trace mates would still scrape when it mates. Tek prevented this by ¡°rolling¡± the chamfered edge of the circuit board. The finished board after plating is ran through a pair of conical rollers that actually smashes the circuit board which reduces the thickness of the plated board fingers, allowing them to partially engage into the connector before beginning to deflect the spring function of the contacts. Thus, there is no edge scraping on the connector during the mating process. The board edge engages before it begins to force the contacts open.

Users who buy these extender kits can do some of these steps to improve them to prevent connector damage. Using a file, it is possible to put a chamfer on the mating edge. A short length of steel rod can be used as a roller to manually squeeze the connector edge. The only thing the user cannot do easily is add the gold plating, but the contribution of plating is minor compared to the problems of mating a rough exposed epoxy glass board into the mainframe connector.

I have a very late model 7104 for which I need the Oscilloscope With

Instruction Manual. The IC date codes indicate it was made around late
1988
or early 1989.

I already have an original Nov 1978 Oscilloscope With Options Instruction
Manual (070-2314-00) but so many things have changed that it makes it
extremely difficult to figure out where parts have moved to or what parts
are new, or have changed value.

Finally, I have a copy of the on-line Nov 1978 Oscilloscope With Options
Instruction Manual

A friend has the Revised JUL 1987 version which I believe is the final
revision (unless someone has a later revision). At least a few more
changes
were made that are in the instrument I have, that are not in the Revised
JUL
1987, but many other changes are shown in it so it is probably the best I
can get.

I would like to buy an original (paper, not PDF) of this latest version
if
anyone has one for sale.

Hi All, got a few more lemo connectors so if u need SG504 leveling heads have a look.
