Re: Strange Tek part Numbers in an AM503B. Can anyone identify them
A quick GOOGLE search shows several Tek hybrids which have 165- part numbers.

Can anyone identify them My goal is to unlock the secret of how the AM503B works and ultimately to find the schematic, theory of operation, maintenance manual, etc. so we can finally fix the plugins. I am looking into the unusual parts in them at the moment and these 3 parts are the most puzzling. 1) 160-9569-02. My wild guess is it is a PROM holding a program. For what processor it might be I have no clue. 2) 165-2456-00. This is a Hypcon package from MAXTEK. I would guess it is the ASIC running everything that isn't in discrete transistors or TTL glue logic. I cannot find any reference to these two entire categories of parts: I have no parts catalogs that show 160-xxxx-yy or 165-xxxx-yy parts. I don't even know what a 160 or 165 part could be. Not even a wild guess. I don't even know if there is a catalog of those kinds of parts. Does anyone know? 3) Finally I have what looks to be a specialized microprocessor (wild ass guess). This would be an IMP (International Microelectronic Products) I10412-01. It is a 28 pin SOIC. They are no longer in business as near as I can tell. That isn't a Tek part. It is not a company I ever heard of. There is virtually no reference to it anywhere on the internet except it might be called a "daculator" (that is not a misprint as far as I know) and it might be related to a Tek 156-6224-00. All Microprocessor, TTL, special function, etc, etc chips start with 156-xxxx-yy but my Tek IC parts catalog stops around 156-3000-yy so I have no information on it. |

Need an SG502 Frequency Dial and Knob
walter shawlee
Anybody have a clean and un-cracked dial and knob for this TM500 sine generator (goes 0.5-5.0) ?
Mine is falling apart, and nothing suitable here as a spare, so I am hoping to find one out in the tek-o-sphere somewhere. also, my main computer exploded (seriously, with an actual bang) so I lost all my email contacts, if you can, please take a moment to email me so I have your info again! any help appreciated, all the best, walter (walter2 -at- sphere.bc.ca) sphere research corp. |

I have over 80 of the 485 scopes that I have bought on eBay over the years. Only one came with a front cover and I could not part with it. They do exist but I think hen's teeth are more plentiful. Reed Dickinson On 5/18/2018 3:41 PM, Mike Harmon wrote:

That was a genuine steal!Almost my four word-class deals. A NIB very rare 7623B - this was a 7-day auction, and astonishingly no-one bid. So I got it for $100. Or the AA501 distortion analyser for $14 on BIN. My fingers were trembling as I stole that within a minute of it being listed. Or an R7603 - but with a 7L5 with tracking generator for UKP70 on BIN. Similar sweaty finger typing. And finally a 7912HB transient digitizer with plugins for $100. And I bought a NOS digitizer CRT (the internal one, as a spare) for another $50. Craig |

I can tell English is not your first language. No problem. Just do the best you can. English is easy to learn by using. What kind of Tek scopes do you have ? We are always curious. |

One thing always puzzled me is why Tek insisted with those crappy carbon composite resistors for soAllen-Bradley stopped making them in the early '93. Caused us no end of grief at Oxford Instruments (where I worked at that time), where we used them as low-cost cryogenic temperature sensors, needing several thousand of a particular value each year. When AB discontinued them, we bought up as much global stock as we could get our paws on. Given that they must eventually have run out by now, I have no idea what they currently use. Craig |

One thing always puzzled me is why Tek insisted with those crappy carbon composite resistors for soLow self inductance. It is a simple carbon-loaded rod. Whereas metal film resistors are usually spiral cut and have a measurable inductance. You can easily measure this effect on an RF bridge. Craig |

If you ever have a reason to come to Seattle you have a place to stay here Thanks for the invite Dennis ! :-) Yeah, with all these low cost airlines proliferating these days, maybe one day I will be able to afford a little trip to the US ! Would have to be in business class though... being 6'6" and large built, the economy seats just don't cut it, knees hurt badly after only a few minutes of flying... had a 45 minutes flight a couple years ago from two parts of France (for work), and after just 5 minutes I was dreaming I could force the pilot to perform and emergency landing, y so I could take a walk ! So going to the west coast of the US... I better have ample leg room other wise they would have to arrange for 911 to wait for me at the airport ! LOL Yeah would not mind visiting the Boeing factory. Aviation being my second big passion after electronics. Actually 7 years ago I gave up on electronics as a job, and spent a year learning the craft of Aircraft cell/structure repair. Now work at Airbus, working on the A350 XWB (Quality control/inspection). Would not mind visiting the "competition" ;-) Regards, Vincent Trouilliez |

I know this is a delicate, my apologies. It is very important to me that those that donated know this.
Below is just cut and pasted here for clarity: As some of you will easily recall, back in 2010 I tried desperately to pull this together via donations from the group. At first we were successful at gathering the funds through email commitment however; not nearly as many people actually donated compared to the number that committed through email. I am retired and could not foot the remainder of the bill and have felt like an ABSOLUTE HEEL ever since!!!!! I have now made a contribution in the sum total of ALL monies received back then. 480.00USD I am not at all interested in anything other than trying to help the community and possibly save a little face for a project that was started in earnest to benefit the masses. I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE the understanding of those generous souls whom tried to help initially and deeply regret the direction my effort turned when things fell so desperately short. Thank you for the bandwidth. Cheers, David |
