Re: 2N3904 B-E junction as fast diode substitute?
I have found that the reverse biased junctions can be used as white noise sources. This doesn't seem to be a great idea for a reference.Mike

Re: 465B strange ripple
This happens whatever the ambient configuration is. With or without overhead lights, inside or outside the case, in the evening with lights on, or in broad daylight without lights or anything else ON.

Re: Tek 485 1MHz calibration signal #photo-notice
Jose, I would suggest this. I was able to exercise mine and get most back to operation. I think that most of these switches are sort of "Self cleaning" so exercising does sometimes "fix" them.

Re: 465B strange ripple
Are you by any chance using LED or florescent lighting and is the scope being operated out of the case when this is occuring? [email protected]> wrote:

Re: 465B strange ripple
The scope's vertical amplifier is completely? differential after the input phase splitter,? so it sounds like the ripple must be injected before the phase splitter. The phase splitter is a matched

Oh, I see... Got it. Will report back, thanks for clarifying this. Indeed. And really, a big thank you to ALL of them. They have been great and very patient with a newbie like me. It¡¯s not always

Re: 465B strange ripple
Not by much, but yes, they definitely have some effect on the position of the 2 dots with respect to each other. Both VAR controls has more effect than the actual V/Div themselves.

Re: 465B strange ripple
Hi Stephen - Maybe I didn't word this correctly. Each scope AC Cord has 3 wires, I intended for you to measure across (end to end) on each of those wires, on both the suspect scopes, and one or two

Hi Stephen, Does the distance between the two dots change when adjusting the V/Div for either input? Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ

Since UPS units are getting suggested I need to mention something. UPS units are NOT all created equal. And are NOT all the same. The ¡°cheap¡± ups units are line interactive units. This means that

Yes, it's a good idea to have a UPS (or even more than one), for more than just this project.? ? ? ? ? ? Jim Ford?Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Thanks Ed, I tried to adjust C524 but it is already at the end of the stroke because the frequency increases, but does not decrease. I will try to add a capacitor in parallel to C526 around 10 pF NP0

Jose, It could be a dirty switch. My 485 had a lot of issues with those switches. It took forever to get both channels to function in all positions and combinations of these switches. Once it was all

Re: Tek 485 1MHz calibration signal #photo-notice
Jose, Tom is correct. If you set the scope as he suggests, you should see a perfect square wave in the 50 Ohm mode. That curved top wave is normal for the 1M Ohm Input.@ 1 MHz calibrator setting. --

Re: Tek 485 1MHz calibration signal #photo-notice
You don't show your setup, so it's hard to say, but I'm guessing it's something simple. Make sure that you are using coax. Make sure that you are in 50 ohm mode. Make sure that the BW limit is not
