and can be reset somehow.

I have been through the calibration procedure and the service manual
and I can't find any mention of the CAL or RF self tests, other than
how to trigger them thru the menus.

What do you do, what do you look for when you have a fail on either of
these two test?
These use the internal 100 MHz at -30 db calibrator to check for
sensitivity, gain calibration, log tracking (by switching the main atten
in and out)... as far as I know the fail is not latching, but I have
never seen a fail so I am not sure...

I myself would be curious as to whether there is a way to get
the results specifically - there is for some of my other SAs...

Plot 10 / TCS / AGII software?

John Rehwinkel

A long time ago, I used Tektronix's ForTran plotting software, first
with a 4010, then with a VT-100 retrofit to support the Tektronix
graphics commands. Years later, I found out that Tektronix had
release the source code for it, and I played with it some more. It
has lots of commands (like SLIMX to reduce the size of a plot in the X
direction) to customize its output.

In any case, I've lost my copy of it. Does anyone have access to the
old ForTran Plot-10 Advanced Graphing source code?

I've struck out doing web searches, although I did find a PDF of the
sales documentation:

This unit looks very beat up to me. And Tampa is on the ocean, the salt air might have got to it.Might be worth a try if you did not have to pay shipping, but you can probably do much better for under $100.

Is anyone here bidding on this, and if not, do you think its worth pursuing?

Re: ebay auctions ...

I bought a load of these on ebay and some 7623/33/03's, 18 in all from a
local university for the same price. It was within driving distance though. I
would shop around some more.

Other than cooling (ie ensuring that the fan intake is not
obscured), and ensuring that the fan does not do a good job of
vacuum cleaning the floor and depositing it in the scope, I can
think of no reason why not.
Thanks everyone. My 535A has started misbehaving again and I was
wondering if that could be the reason. Maybe it's an intermittent
contact in the 1A1 edge connector. I'll have to investigate...

Yes, the fan suck dust and fluff from the floor necessitating
frequent cleaning of the filter - otherwise no problems that I am
aware of.

Re: Manuals needed for the following scopes

There's the 2246 operator's manual off this fellows page.

I've never seen the service manual for the 2246 available "free" online
anywhere. (Though I wouldn't mind finding one. - If for no other reason to
flip through)

Dave Casey

Are the measurements accurate for what you see, or is the trace compressed?

Thanks in advance,

Re: Massachusetts surplus

Scott McGrath

None in MA that I know of

ESS in Manchester NH (Exit 6 off I-93N) take right off of exit and it's about a 1/2 mile on your left on Candia Road they have a substantial Ebay presence as well and you can pick up your Ebay stuff there and not risk damage in shipping.

Store has Electronic parts (new), industrial surplus, racks and power supplies most of the 'good' test gear goes to ebay

Peter Gottlieb wrote:

Anybody know if there are any decent surplus stores left in MA? Like where they have Tek or HP gear?

Now that I work there, figured I'd ask.

Also looking for a local place I could buy (and pick up) a 19" rack or two.

Re: 2430A CCD and PA fail... bad NVRAM?

Hi,

I hope this post isn't bad new for your but here goes:

Make sure you point an external fan at the CCD when running outside
the cover. Even 10 minutes of operation with the CCDs being cooled is
enough to destry them.

I hope you have a 2430A abover serial number B015xxx, anything below
that is going to be painful.

Also, the usual CCD failure will not really show up until you use
REPET mode. You see this on ebay all the time "This scope has CCD
failures but I input a signal and it works great!"

Yeah, at 1ms/Div. Try a fast signal and using 100ns/Div or faster.

Re: 535A stood on its end

I don¡¯t think the 535A cares what position it is in as long as the air flow
through the fan filter is not restricted.

Re: Obsolete part needed for repair

It is a 5082-3081, currently manufacturer by Avago. It is available in single quantities from Farnell and Mouser.

Does anyone know where I can locate the following obsolete part?

HP3081

If not, can you provide me with a data sheet that I can use to find a
suitable cross reference?

The part is not for a Tektronix Scope, it is a pin diode used in a
Advantage Instruments SA1300C Spectrum analyzer that I am repairing.
There are 2 diodes in series connected to the input of the spectrum
analyzer (both HP3081's). Unfortunately, 1 has blown and I would like
to get a few of these in case of future problems. So far the only
places I can find them are places that locate obsolete parts like
USBID, but they have a $250 minimum order. Does anyone know of a
suitable replacement for this?

I figured that it was worth a chance asking here, since there are many
knowledgeable people here that repair such equipment.
