Re: TDS460A Will not turn on?
Steve, I have been repairing switching supplies since the mid 1980's, and I have yet to have to replace an optocoupler. Not one. That is very odd, given your statement. Perhaps, whatever a 6130 is, it

Re: TDS460A Will not turn on?
Chuck, If the opto-couplers are "HP" I'd have to argue with you. My boss (late '70's) at Opto Elec Div used to do the 6130C's and 6131C's and before he started he poured a little pile of couplers on

Re: TDS460A Will not turn on?
CRxx indicates "Crystal Rectifier" with a sequence number. Crystal Rectifiers are diodes. CR17 would be the seventeenth diode inserted into the schematic. Due to revisions and other reasons all the

Chuck, I am trying to learn and NOT be a bother to anyone.? I appreciate your help, cannot say that enough. ? You are correct on both 1 and 2.? See my response, sent before I read this message.?

Re: TDS460A Will not turn on?
Chuck, You are 100% correct about that optocoupler. I pulled that component out of circuit and it tests good. Don't know why I even trust "in circuit" tests? Moving back to your "million dollar hint".

Re: Fan Mounts for Brown Case 545
Mike I stopped looking for the original style mounts years ago. I use a short length of rubber fuel line from the auto parts store and a machine screw. Works for me. If you want a picture let me know.

Re: TDS460A Will not turn on?
Hi Michael, Two things to help further your education: 1) there are almost always multiple devices in parallel, or series with every device you may wish to test in circuit. 2) Sooner or later you have

Am I still on the list for one of those 'scopes? Bob818 894-2887

2440 cal errors
Well I guess you get what you pay for. At $50 for a 2440 should have been a clue. So far the first 2440 I turned on has cal errors 4000 FPP fail 7000 CCD fail 8000 PA fail all others passed Maybe I

Re: TDS460A Will not turn on?
Chuck, Sorry, I was not at all clear, I should not have used the term "continuity" as I am using the Diode Test function on my DMM. To be precise: IC7 is open (infinity) in one direction (Red on Pin 2
By Mlynch001 · #159104 ·
Re: TDS460A Will not turn on?
Continuity means very little. You need to observe the voltage when you insert some current. To make this possible, most DVM's have a Diode test position on one of the low ohms positions, or as a

All: I have been studying this power supply all morning and doing some unpowered testing of various components in circuit. I have two optocouplers in this circuit. They are type CNY17-2 and I found

If these are the same as the three double-ended mounts used on later production, I bought a batch from McMaster years ago. I'll give you four for a token amount to cover shipping. I'm in Hillsboro,

Re: TDS460A Will not turn on?
Ravi, I will continue to study this circuit and the materials that you have suggested. Is it your opinion that UC3844A is the oscillator? The Data sheet for the device seems to indicate that it is.
By Mlynch001 · #159100 ·
Re: P6249 Oscillation
Perhaps the input circuitry has been blown out by excessive voltage which is a good hint for what is wrong. I wish I had a schematic of what is in the unit before I cut into it. I also wish I were not

Re: 2467B focus/astigmatism anomaly...
Maybe the cap IS leaking, and heated some of the resistors on the right hand side of the schematic up? After disconnecting the cap, the resistors cooled back down and found their normal DC working

Re: 2467B focus/astigmatism anomaly...
An interesting change has occurred from yesterday... Yesterday, I removed C4403, turned the scope on, adjusted the focus and astigmatism, played a little bit, and concluded the dynamic focus circuitry

Fan Mounts for Brown Case 545
The four rubber vibration damping fan mounts on my circa 1956 brown case 545 have disintegrated. Any suggestions on where I might find suitable replacements?

Hi Michael, I will check the standard circuit for and around UC3844A and provide my thoughts. The photo of your A5 board will also help in understanding component placement on the board that you have.
