I do not know that this is the problem but when the trigger mode is
set to AUTO and there is no trigger, the sweep will free run after the
trigger timeout expires to show a trace. If at that point there is a
momentary trigger, the trace will blank while waiting for the next
trigger event until the trigger timeout expires again.
Alternatively, the trigger calibration might be marginal causing
erratic operation.
