Re: OT: WD40 depressing experience

Hi I know exactly what you mean. A number of years ago I had a new 60 x 25 x12 shed installed here and I did all the wiring for 240v power points (30) and 9 3 Phase 415 outlets and all of the lighting and ran it all to where the switch board was to go and the electrician ran the sub mains from the main switch board in the house and terminated it all . I have never seen such a mess in my life and when he had finished he packed up and was off so I queried him as to whether he was going to check what I had done and he just laughed and said if the inspector checked any of the outlets he would know that he had not done that work as it was too neat and done properly. He signed a certificate of compliance and collected his money and went on his merry way...

And that is fine, your choice.
But there are plenty of electricians I will not let near my house,
just as there are plenty of mechanics I will not let near my car.

Everyone should be allowed to educate himself and do a good job on his
own property (sometimes better than the professionals, because they
know what corners they can cut).

And yes - although I mourned the legislation that prevented DIY to mains
power, I use a professional electrician (a guy called - I kid you not -
Colin Pizzie) because he is so darned quick and competent. I watched him
completely re-wiring our kitchen, power, AV, antenna wiring, during a major
remodelling last year in awe. Eight days that would have taken me forty.
But NOT because I was required to do this because of the law.
