I've had some time to read the manual and play with the 'scope. It
seems to work. I am pleased with the deal. I've figured out most of
the front panel button functions. I'll need to get a waveform
calculator keyboard at some point, but I've put the 7904A aside and
now have the 7854 on my bench. I will use it as my main 'scope for a
while to get the feel of things.
Thanks, everyone, for the help (especially Albert who fixed my
eyesight problem).
Cheers,
Dave

Yes, pressing SCOPE gets rid of the self-test display,
but it also switches
between the acquired waveform (the digital side of this
analog/digital
scope) which you view with the STORED button or the real
time analog scope
which you view with the SCOPE button.
To see both the stored digital waveform and the real time
analog waveform at
the same time press the blue "f" button then the BOTH
button (which is the
same as the STORED button). BOTH is printed in blue above
STORED to indicate
you activate it by first pressing the blue "f" (for
function) button. Ditto
for any other labels in blue on the front panel.

Immediately above and offset to the right of the "f" key
in the middle of
the keyboard is a button marked "SCOPE" in the section
marked "CRT DISPLAY".
It is usually the first button I press when powering the
7854 up just to get rid of the self test message.
