Perhaps judicious application of heat to the
pin/neck may get the two pieces closer together as well.
As a word of warning (for lack of better
wording). I would be a bit concerned on the
neon transformer idea (not a technically based
or engineering rigorous concern)¡. the solution
if it works will be one that is low enough in
current to tack the two together but not melt
the heater/other parts in the process. A high
voltage on a cap ¡°sounds right¡± where a
transformer supplying constant current ¡°sounds wrong¡± for what that is worth.
Anyway, I wish you both good luck and hope you do get¡¯er done.

If you get anyway near Belair, give me a yell
at 443-250-6381. I have some old neon sign
transformers that may do just right. We could
dummy it up in the garage and see if the tab can be deformed.

Interesting. How much of a gap did you
have between the pin and the strap?
Noticed your email handle. Are you located in Baltimore, MD?
Mark
It was about 10 years ago, but it was a
fairly large gap (something like 1/16").
I'm located in Austin, TX.
Andy
Sounds fairly close in width to mine, gap-wise.
Bummer. I live about 40 minutes away from Bal'mur, in southern MD. ;-)
