I have in one mainframe so far (and planned on continuing) replaced the 1uf and lower electrolytic capacitors with Xicon Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCC) or Xicon Polyester Film Capacitors of the same capacitance. The voltage rating is 250V and the tolerances, etc. were better than the electrolytic I replaced. I didn't see the cost difference being very significant and thought they would last better than electrolytic. The scope responded favorably and is running fine. I did however save the ones I replaced and could go back if so recommended. Perhaps I should have asked first. However those that know me would say it is not out of character for me to beg forgiveness vs. ask for permission. In fact they would be surprised I even though enough to stop and start asking questions like this.
To take Rob's question a bit further, when replacing ceramic disk caps, is there any issue using MLCC or polyester film caps? What about with those nifty little "tube" caps Tek seemed to like using? I mean, the ones that look like hollow resistors.
