I like the idea of replacing the 5642¡¯s with silicon, so I¡¯ll order the 2CL2FLs from Amazon. One less thing to go wrong. Strangely, Digikey doesn¡¯t seem to carry them.
It may take a week or so to source the 6.3V xfmr. Not sure I have one in my junk box, but I know someone who does. I was hoping to avoid wrestling that brute of a ¡®scope on its side to get at its power supply. Drat! Oh well. The xfmr may well be the culprit, since I can remember hearing some low ¡®corona¡¯ sounds from that area, although the fan makes it hard to tell where the sound is coming from. I believe you are referring to only terminals 5&6 on the transformer¡correct?
My notes say that I replaced C858 already, so we¡¯ll assume that¡¯s ok. I will obtain a C802 replacement and try that out too.
I don¡¯t have a ¡®megger¡¯ or anything similar, so measuring leakage from the focus pot is not possible, other than with my DMM. Instead, I could get a 5 Meg pot and isolate it from the chassis, or a couple of 2.2 Meg resistors in series with centre tap between the two.
Will report back when we get that all configured.
