It's true that this isn't a particularly concept. The idea was born when I had piles of defective product to look at (thanks to very poor process control at the contract manufacturer). I was able to create a curve tracing/comparing device using a commercial data acquisition device. It was rather sluggish, and not especially inexpensive. But it was highly effective in finding faults using the minimum of engineering time. Always wanted to take the idea and get it into the hands of users. Having retired, I had the time to get the design done. The Vintage Tek museum can use the money, and I may get some appreciation for the cute little thing.
The one thing I had the most trouble with was marking the plastic case. I bought a laser etcher and had high hopes. It turn out that ABS plastic is a very poor subject for this. It melts a bit, then goes up in a sooty mess. As a result, the legend and artwork are quite hard to read. And the ABS plastic out-gasses cyanide gas in the process.
