12BA6s are easy to find and their rating are close. Try them if 12AU6s are hard to find. Because there are four of the 12AU6s, it may be possible to use easy to get 6AU6s by rewiring the filament circuits. One instance I have seen of changing tubes to solid state in Tektronix gear was in old NTSC waveform monitors. The tube was a pentode? had a GsubM of almost 30,000. It was quite difficult to find and expensive. A popular solid state replacement was made and used frequently. There are others as well.
