I was in the scope today replacing the CRT with an apparently new part, and while I was in there I decided to check R4124. It reads as 29M, so it¡¯s getting replaced. I just ordered ten of the metal film resistors (as you said, price break, and I have at least three other instruments that might need one).
The old CRT is indeed damaged (per Morris Odell¡¯s thread about similar symptoms on his 7904). After I got the old CRT out I could hear something rattling around loose inside. Close examination showed a small chunk of glass loose in the neck. Very sad, since the old CRT is otherwise apparently undamaged.
