Hi,
As far as i remember, this type of nvram can actually indicate the low
battery condition, by reading some specific addresses in specific sequence
by the cpu. Apparently the firmware has this implemented.
Actually, I just remembered that I did hack an external battery to this
type of nvram for a 2430A, see my earlier post and pictures here:

Thank you for these encouraging arguments, I will probably go ahead and
order a couple of these NVRAMs as they are not that expensive. One thing
though, one of the tests, 4700, mentions a low battery (4720 LOW FAIL)
apparently located in the front panel. I have searched the manual but could
not find this battery anywhere. Unless this is a register read by the
front-panel processor simply confirming the NVRAMs are gone? Thank you.
