That's what I figured, but I've never taken one of the wafer switches apart, so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to add another wafer section. For some of the select switches adding a pot might be difficult because there's already a concentric pot at the end of the assembly (maybe not on the 57x instruments?). I had considered adding an optical encoder to the shaft as probably the easiest modification: there's a lot of open space on the wafer switches I'm looking at in 500-series scopes and plug-ins.
