Interesting, I can't explain why this would be.
For giggles try and plug the scope into the bathroom outlet and see whether
the noise goes away?
I think that in places that are subjected to the most stringent safety regulations, like kitchen and bathroom, the mains connections have been renewed and set up according to the modern system, whereas in other places, like the living room, they've been left as they were. Appropriate connections have been made where mains power enters the house.
