OK, here's how to disassemble the BNC shroud, more or less gracefully:

1) remove the cable and cable strain relief.

2) carefully remove one half of the compensator box, it's the part
that springs open.

3) unscrew the rest of the box from the bnc housing, the center
conductor will come right out. You'll need the box because that holds
the center conductor in place.

4) now the fun stuff that isn't so obvious.

5) using a fine blade screwdriver as a chisel, note the fine line
about 1 mm (say 1/32) from the tip of the bnc connector, that's
closest to the plugin.

6) that is a ring that is loosely glued on. Use the screwdriver to
remove the ring, prying gently up. It'll have to go back on, and only
in one orientation due to the pin.

7) with the ring removed, put the box end of the BNC downwards on a
firm surface, pin is up.

8) press down on the outer shell, gently prying it away from the pin
end of the connector. It's just a press fit.

9) slide the shell off. You'll see the resistor on the outside of the
BNC connector.

I think reversing the steps will put everything back.

Next: modifying the box and adding a BNC. May involve machining or a
3D printer. You could always put a cable mounted BNC in place and bag
the machining part.

Hi Harvey,

See an old Post of me:

The mentioned part is still for Sale:

Thanks, 20 for the part and 12 for shipping. My cheapness gene just
kicked in, so that's down on the list. <grin>
I just took apart a compensator box that did not have a pin (the pins
are brittle, and when bent back straight, will break).

I cut two slots down the side of the BNC plastic shroud to remove it.
At this point, the options (not for that one) are to make a new shroud
or fake the whole thing.

However, what I think Tektronix did is to put on the shroud, then glue
a ring to the very end. Not sure if removing that glued on ring will
free the shroud. It may just have been a manufacturing step.
