You could replace the amperite delay tube with a modern delay relay with relatively little pain. The problem with them while they are very reliable the available stock of ¡®good¡¯ ones is rapidly depleting at least here in NE and delay relays are now cheap and widely available AND THEY FIT AN OCTAL SOCKET. So with a bit of rewiring you have that problem fixed
