Goo Gone original is my go to for adhesive cleanup. You can buy it almost anywhere.
I've never used it on painted surfaces, but it's supposed to be paint safe.
Read the FAQ. Not all Goo Gone Products are paint safe!
Soak the residue for a while and then rub it off. It may take more than one treatment. But it will soften the adhesive.
