The story is slightly more complicated (or intriguing?):
Thanks a lot for that reference. I knew that S/N's < B250000 had the IC version Vertical Output Amp, that somewhere in the S/N range >= B250000 the IC version was (permanently?) replaced with a discrete version and that the 465B again had that same IC in its VOA. I wasn't aware of the reason though. One would think that an integrated version would be better - or cheaper.
Interesting - and indeed intriguing - to read what Stan Griffiths remembered about it. His post was long before my Tek "rebirth", which was in 2012, after being out of the electronics field since 1985.
I remember when in 1976 I noticed that my own new 465 had the IC VOA, I wondered why later units didn't. That mystery has now been solved!
