Re: 2465B Power Supply outside of Chassis

The 24x5_ power supplies require a minimum load to operate without damage.? The minimum load specified in the?Tektronix Service Manual is 2 x 2 Ohm resistors connected to +5Vd.? The Service Manual specifies these two resistors should be placed on two separate pins (J303 and J232) to distribute the load.? This load will allow the supply to operate but only the +5Vd will regulate.? All other outputs will be unregulated but operate safely in this configuration.

When probing the Power Supply be aware that there is a "high side" which is directly connected to mains power.? It is possible to receive dangerous shocks when touching any?component/terminal?on the high side.? Tektronix suggests using an isolation transformer to separate the supply form mains when bench testing.??

Subject: [TekScopes] 2465B Power Supply outside of Chassis

?
My 2465B power supply is sick and I am wondering if I can work on it outside of the chassis???? I can see in the service manual that the loads are specified that need to be applied in order for it to run but it is not clear if the loads can be applied when the PSU is outside of the scope sitting on a bench...Anyone have any ideas if this can be done???? Of course power will have to applied along with a switch or jumper to provide primary power to the PSU...It would be nice to be able to do this.? If this has already been addressed some place on the group or website please point me in the right direction..
