If that is the ripple on the regulated outputs, I would replace the caps. Especially the one on the +32 regulated supply as it is also the reference for the +5 supply.
?
It looks like the calibration waveform is being modulated in both amplitude and period. That most likely is why the xy display is elongated.
?
Take a look at the unregulated 32 volts (around 50 volts) and see how dirty it is. Confirm that it is 120 Hz (or 100 Hz if you are in one of those weird countries that doesn't spin their generators fast enough) :).
?
What readings did you see and what are you using to measure ESR?

Subject: [TekScopes] Tek 455 Advice Please [3 Attachments]

?

I have a TEK 455 that a friend gave to me and it has an issue with the trace poor geometry. In XY mode, the trace is oblong and out of focus.

I suspected possible PS filter issues so I measure the ripple on the 32V supply and found it to be 1.3v PP and 68mV PP on the 5 volt supply.

I removed the filter caps and tested them with an ESR meter along with an ohm meter. They seem to be fine.

Should I replace them anyway and retest?

Thank for any advise.

Jim
