Re: cabin sole

Hello Rob,
Thanks for the info! AtomVoyages is a great website, but I missed the cabin sole project. You are right, the teak and holly sheets are very expensive! I will look into it!

Re: cabin sole

Fred,
You might check out Atomvoyages. James replaced his cabin sole with strips of African Iroko, the seams filled with black caulk. At first I thought it was pretty cheesy then I priced a sheet of the plywood with teak and holly veneer. I just tried to find it in his site but had no luck. It might he in one of the later Atom refit projects. I know I saw it in there somewhere. Anyway it looks pretty good at what must be a feaction of the cost. Might try it on mine.

Re: cabin sole

Hi,
I am also re-doing my cabin sole. But ours is a 27-2, which has the fiberglass sole with pockets to fit 1/8" thick wood inserts. So any info on cabin soles would be appreciated here too, regardless of the model. So far the plan is to replace the wood with vinyl. I am still in the demolition stage, so am still open to suggestions.

Re: cabin sole

Bill,
Looking at your older post re: cabin sole. How did it turn out? I¡¯m planning to replace my cabin sole at some point. I like the traditional look that you went with. What did you use to install? I¡¯m assuming epoxy. Any pictures?
Thanks,

Todd

Re: Pics

Yes 2 gm raw water cooled

Re: Pics [9 Attachments]

Wow...good luck on the restoration! Looks like a Yanmar based on that engine color alone.

These are great sailing boats btw. So versatile and fast for a small footprint. I took mine out in Buzzards Bay on small craft advisory days just to test her limits a few times...I hope my old Destinada is in good shape after it has changed owners a few times since I sold it a few years back.

Greetings from North Florida. Called up Stu Wikander in Md, got him to send these. I was wondering whether it was a 2 cylinder yanmar or not. I forgot to ask when I bought it. Looks like a 2gm raw water cooled. Haven't seen it in person yet. Waiting for a good weather window. Haha still freezing up there. Maybe first week in March.?

St John's River

Hi Alex, thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what I'm doing, most likely going to dry sail it in the backyard in Middleburg for awhile.? Condition is probably pretty rough I'm assuming,? as it had water in it,? most likely from above. Yard owner says theres no water in the Yanmar oil.?
Waiting for a water pump from Pelican parts for my Passat, coming from California,? the belts and tensioner came the next day. As soon as that's done I'm heading to Maryland on a good weather window to look at it. Then we'll see.?
I'll send you my contact info.

Re: New member

Hi Alex,
What boat are you referring to?? I have a Capri 16 at the Rudder Club near the Buckman Bridge.?

Welcome, Rob. ? Interesting situation you¡¯ve got. ? I¡¯m pretty sure your Hull #8 has, or at least at one time had, something pretty rare: ?a full bronze centerboard. ? I honestly don¡¯t know much of the pros and cons, but the later glass ones have certainly had their issues with rust and delamination, but neither of those would apply to a full bronze board.? Good luck, and welcome!

Hello sailors, Rob sends New Year's greetings from Jacksonville, Florida. I am the new owner of a 1962 T27, hull #8 currently sitting on the hard at Wikander's on the Eastern shore of Maryland. It's got a Yanmar, that's mostly all I know about it. Bought it sight unseen off Craigslist from the yard owner in October.? Hoping to get up there asap, as work has finally slowed.?
I also own a 1974 Allied Chance 30, currently in the St. John's river. Recently struck by lightning, now full of holes. Have temporarily patched the leaks, waiting until I see the Tartan to make a decision how to proceed.?

St John's runs north through Jacksonville,? Florida.? Allied is in Green Cove Springs,? about 20 miles south. Haven't but a Christmas card from the yard owner with a picture of the Tartan. I'll try to upload it. Btw the price was right, so I took a chance.?
