Re: Solar panels

Yea I'm planning on living on my boat over winter so gonna need some solar power but haven't figured out a practical way to moun them without taking away the looks or getting in the way.

Re: Solar panels

Hygelig has the same setup as the Marsh Harbor boat , with a panel hung on port and another on starboard.? A folding leg holds them out when in use.

Re: Solar panels

I do not have a photo. Mine, when I bought the boat was simply laid across the the stern pulpit. Works great. It Is ugly and limits acces to stern cleats etc.
I did see a boat in Marsh Harbor last summerthat had a good practical set up.
They were working on the assumption that the solar panels were for use at anchor. So there installation was not for under way.
They had 2 panels rigged with hooks on one long side and a folding support leg on the other.
They simply hung the panels on the life lines and angled them with the leg.
When it came time to sail the panels were stored.
For long term anchoring they left one panel on the port and one on starboard so to always have at least one good angle.
It looked a little odd at first. But the simplicity was appealing.
We spend alot of effort building permanent structures that add alot of windage. But unless long off shore passages are your norm, the panels are really an in port accessory.
It hadn't occurred to me until I saw it.
This is what I plan for mine. ?My only issue is the previous owner bought one really good large panel and it won't fit in any of the lockers...?

Re: Prop replacement

What are the specs of your 3 blade prop? What are you asking for it? I am considering an indigo but want to think about what else may be out there.

Re: Prop replacement

David, what is the range of pitch and diameter specifications we should look for to get the "river running" performance you speak of our of our A4's?

The two best options that I know of (after much research) is the Indigo A-4 custom 3-blade, and a top quality 2 blade such as by Campbell or Michigan Sailor.? There was a nice two-blade by CDI, but it is no longer available (new).? The Indigo lists for $360.? The Campbell 2 blade should be similar in price, the 3 blade perhaps more.? My experience with the small Indigo 3-blade is that although it gives me 5 1/2 knots at a dependable RPM, I miss the higher-speed kick of a good 2-blade such as my CDI, which I loved but it was a form of plastic which is hard to clean and re-hone after getting pocked by occasional cavitation.

Replacing the propeller - I am in the process replacing the prop with the shorter term assignment of motoring a great deal of the way down the ICW. I was prepared to purchase a new 3 blade prop, but was somewhat astounded by the cost (+$700) Is this normal? and what are the alternatives? Jack

Wow, that's really generous of you! I would probably entertain making the trip if you were selling the trailer at a price I could afford, but the gas to get there would be more than the fee to have a reputable boat transport guy move it ... then I have to get it back to you in the spring! The idea is definitely attractive but I just can't make the numbers work. Thank you VERY MUCH for offering! However, if you decide to sell ... ;^)

Re: T27 Project Looking for New Home

Hey give me a call interested in tartan 7089903630

Re: T27 Project Looking for New Home

I hope you find her a home. I am already in a project of similar scope on hull 136. The thought of a nearly compete T27 getting parted out hurts my sensibilities. Good luck

Re: Tired of my outboard

Hello
You cant check the compression turning the motor by hand. You need to remove all the spark plugs and turn it over with the starter checking each cylinder in turn. Even if your rings or cylinder walls are badly worn there would be a small amount of compression. No compression in any cylinder indicates major problems! Good luck!

Re: Tired of my outboard

Well, this is the first update.?
?I have a shaft with and I think there is a prop in the bilge. the Transmission is attached.
When I turn the flywheel by hand the alternator and water pump turn. BUT, no compression on any cylinder
with the compression gauge.. So I took off the Alternator, water pump and exhaust manifold and starter off, and probably will take the access plate off for the valves springs first. Before I pop the head.?
? ? ?I have a few days off, so tomorrow I start on the toerail wood. It is falling apart. I am going to remove it starting at the bow. Use the old ones for patterns.?
