Just pulled the oil dip stick and fuel or water started pouring out, it looked like fuel. ??

Oh, one more thought. Do you have a fuel filter with a water separator?
If not, definitely install one, and if so, check the water catcher
on the bottom to make sure you don't water in your fuel (should be a
regular check before starting the engine). Water can be drained off
and desposed of as hazardous waste.

Re: Yanmar 2GM 20 breather hose!

Filling the tank should not cause the breather hose to fail.

Too much pressure from a clogged breather filter, failed CDR valve,
or kinked hose can cause smoke and other problems (engine trying
to vent oil any way it can), but I'm not sure that that's the main
cause in this case.

My Kubota Z500 doesn't have a CDR so it seems likely that small diesels
don't.

Sure thing. Good luck!

Re: Yanmar 2GM 20 breather hose!

Thx Scott I just got some thicker fuel hose with 3/8 ID and some clamps. I just filled the 15 gallon tank a couple of days before this problem and am wondering how that might cause the breather hose to fail. Coincidence?
I really appreciate your assistance, at least I feel I'm not alone

There should be some foam or something under where the breather attaches to
the engine (see the service manual for the engine) that catches oil so
it doesn't go out the breather, but the crankcase gases will still have
cylinder blow-by (partially burnt diesel). White smoke is generally
associated with partially burnt diesel, not oil (that's described as "blue"),
so that doesn't sound exactly like oil from the breather getting burnt,
or pressure forcing more oil into the cylinders. And yeah, that should
be unkinked. Don't be shy about putting heavier, thicker hose on there
with the same inner diameter.

Running for a period of time at dock making smoke should be okay and if
it's a temporary build-up of fuel in the exhaust manifold, it should clear.
Too much too long and you're causing soot build-up.

I have some diesel work to do too =|

Yanmar 2GM 20 breather hose!

My Tartan 27 #332 from 1967 was re powered before I bought it last January with a Yanmar which has been running great until a few days ago when I noticed some oil in the bilge and discovered the breather hose had worked itself off the nipple of the valve cover. When I went to push it back on the hose fell off in my hand and I struggled to discover where the other nipple went but eventually reattached both ends again one on the valve cover the other to a nipple headed toward the air intake silencer. After starting the engine in ran for 20 seconds then white smoke began exiting the exhaust and I shut the engine off. The hose did have a bend in it the may have restricted the flow. Any suggestions, I was going to replace the hose and try again today

Re: Coaming removal

Hey, I took mine off this year, but had already removed the ice box. I'd say take the rest of the screws out then tilt it so you can cut it off with a grinder. I didn't replace those screws when I put it back on, the two winches and screws through the cabin top seemed substantial enough. Fewer holes, fewer leaks.

I have a complete T27 #442 minus the Atomic Four anchored in Tampa Bay that I'm giving away for the cost of transferring the title into your name.

Good opportunity to permanently remove the icebox! We put in a nice cupboard that serves as a pantry when cruising. AC/DC fridge or use a good cooler. Just a thought....

Hi all,

I'm thinking of pulling the coamings and refinishing them over the winter in the heated comfort of my garage.? I remember hearing that the screws that hold them in place are partially covered by the icebox?? If anyone has any tips to offer about removing the coamings I would love some advice.

Thanks!

T27 Project Looking for New Home

1970 Tartan 27 "Irish Lady"
(Hull #442 built in 1969)

I bought this boat with the intention of hauling her and bringing her home for a complete refit. Unfortunately, my situation has changed and I have finally come to the conclusion that she has sat neglected long enough, and someone else needs a chance at restoring her to her former glory. Be aware, this boat is a major project in rough condition and is currently in the water with a healthy accumulation of barnacles. Below, I have listed what needs to be done to her as far as I know:

* Tiller needs replacement
* A couple of Soft spots in the deck need to be re-cored
* Cabin sole needs replacement
* Centerboard is stuck in the trunk and needs to be freed (Presumably from marine growth)
* Wiring needs to be completely redone
* There is a small area of the deck flange that needs some glass work. The hull does not appear to be affected.
* New toe rails and rub rail
* Chainplates and knees replaced
* Through hulls replaced
* New running rigging
* Batten pockets need restitching on the mainsail.

The engine had been removed when I got the boat and an outboard bracket was installed on the transom. The propeller, shaft, and fuel tank are still there if you would like to install an inboard diesel or electric propulsion. There is no motor included with the boat.

The boat is currently anchored in Tampa Bay at Williams Park in Gibsonton, Florida and is hanging on a 45 lb plow anchor with 100 feet of 5/16" BBB chain. She did not drag anchor during Irma, unlike many other boats. Unfortunately, a couple of other boats have drug anchor in years past and left a few cosmetic scars. There are three sails. The main sail needs a batten pocket restitched and new battens, as I recall.

There is much to be done, and it will require a sizeable investment in time, skills, and materials to do the job correctly. I would like to find someone who is familiar with the design and would be willing to take on the project and do a proper restoration on this worthy classic. I am more intertested in finding the right prospective new owner than anything I might get out of the boat monetarily. For that reason, I am asking only enough to cover the transfer and title fees to transfer the boat into your name. I will meet you at the title office in downtown Tampa in the County Center and we can make it official. This is not negotiable. The boat must be titled in your name before you take posession of the boat.??

I do not have time to show the boat or answer a lot of general questions, but I will do my best to answer legitimate inquiries. Remember, I'm giving the boat away for free, so I can't invest a lot of time answering generalized questions about the boat's design and construction. I would hate to see her stripped for salvage, but if that is what must be, I would at least like to see her parts go towards keeping other T27's going. That is the reason I'm listing her here first rather than advertising locally.

Please respond via email if you would like to give her a new home.

Re: Tartan 27 T-shirts

This is great! I am no longer a T27 owner as I am in the midst of a total overhaul of my Tartan 34 but these are awesome and will be ordering me some too!

Re: Tartan 27 T-shirts [2 Attachments]

Wow, that's pretty sweet, especially the other items available, such as the water bottles, mugs, and magnets!

Well done!
