Chain plates. Hopefully at her age they have been done. They should be redone so they are not encapsulated in fiberglass but are visible on the surface of the knees in the lockers, best to use 316 for plates and bolts.
There are several methods to approach the issue depending on the condition of the knees.

group has moved to groups.io since yaho groups is "retiring"
Hi Tartan 27' owner or member of the T27Owners group on Yahoo.
Groups.io says it has transferred all your ID's, pictures, messages etc over to their website and if you are receiving this email you are probably already registered for our (continued) new group.? Groups.io has a different new member vetting scheme than yahoo so I may have to approve all of your first messages (once you are approved and I don't have to do anything).? Hopefully this will keep the spammers at bay.? Yahoo used to allow you to send an introductory email to a new user who could then say they knew something about boats or the T27, which was a useful feature but I am happy to be rid of yahoo.
Please feel free to poke around in groups.io
/g/T27Owners
where you should already be a member.
My best,
Caleb Davison

Re: T27 Yahoo Group is going to groups.io (hopefully)
Jeremy,
I totally agree with you.? The yahoo groups interface has sucked since they did their last major "upgrade" to it about 5 years ago and it wasn't that great before the upgrade either. I am more than happy to give groups.io a chance if they can scrape most of our data from the yahoo site.? We will see: they are already stating that yahoo is undependable and that they may not be able to get ALL of our messages, photos, files etc.
My best,

While temporarily annoying, this sounds like great news. The yahoo groups interface is pretty terrible and looks like a familiar but much improved interface. And, while Facebook is nice for posting pretty photos, it is not a great place for long form discussions. (And, of course, there is also the problem that Facebook is ... Facebook).
Thanks!

Thanks Jeremy.? I noticed that article as well and I have already created a T27Owners group at .? There is no data in this group at the moment.

Hi all.
If this goes through then things are looking up.
I have put through the "scrape from Yahoo" request here at groups.io and we shall see what they are able to gather.

A lot of changes get made to boats over the years by their owners
and since my experience is with the rare west-coast model I'm
likely to give bad information, so grain of salt... but is it possible
that the engine's water cooling jacket is T'd in to the port side
drain? But that would amount to about *one* gallon of water.
And more likely the engine water is injected in to the exhaust anyawy.
I assume you've looked in the bilge and would have noticed if there
was water in the bilge (which would be likely from rain water getting
in) and then there wasn't water in the bilge any more after that.
But I'm not sure how unclogging the scupper would do that. The
scupper clog would have to some how clog the cracked thru-hull.
"I couldn't find any other water filled places on the boat" --
I'm at a loss for anything else... so look again and see if there
are signs it was recently wet?
If that does turn out to be the case, obvoiusly new thru-hulls are
on the agenda. The fresh water tank should absolutely not be
connected to the scuppers unless someone had a exceptionally
non-picky rainwater collection system rigged up.
Can you physically inspect the thru-hull fitting on the inside and
outside both (and physically push it different directions)?
Can you see if anything else is connected to the scupper's tube?
Cheers,
-scott

Hello Brent.
For some reason i cannot see your pic it seems to indicate the image link is broken? i would like to see it if possible as im afraid i will be having to redo my mast step as well.
|
Ok, thanks. I did see a strip of metal down there, that was as much as I could make out. But it does give me some cheer to know that someone else has dealt with the same problem. --Rob

Hi Robert,
Welcome to the T27 Fix-It community. Below is a photo of how Rich Shearley (Lola's previous owner and restorer) rebuilt the mast step on Lola (#438). On top of this went the metal mast step, which is an aluminum (I believe) plate/inverted "T", where the stem of the T is oriented upward and in the fore/aft direction to mate with a slot in the bottom of the mast. I think the mast step was set in thickened epoxy. It's pretty solid and hasn't moved, though the floor around it has. If you need to build up with wood prior to epoxy/glass, then metal, white oak is likely your best bet.

I'm wondering about a couple things. First would be how to fabricate a new step, what materials, how big, or can I buy something and fit it to the mast and then whatever support underneath I need. I'm pretty well versed in epoxy/glass at this point after my Allied experience(ongoing).? Then what height do I need to be at from bottom of cabin top to top of mast step to keep the original dimension. I can adjust from there based on what's left of the mast. I figure I could raise any prospective step by 1/4 inch or more. Looks like I need to tear out the interior in that area. I may just truck the boat to Jacksonville instead of trying to work on it there in Eden. It's on the hard btw. Trying to wrap my head around it. Im going to go back to Jax and finish the holes in the Allied first, put the interior back together. Working now $$ and waiting for a bit cooler weather there.
