A few points.... -using a boom vang and setting it up to not allow the boom to raise up high enough to catch the backstay is something that should be done on stock boats or boats that have raised

There's no reason you can't raise the boom. It's a common modification, especially on older boats. There's a Library of Congress on the topic on YouTube and the internets.

Hi! I think that may be a good idea, but have not tried. I would be concerned about put more holes in the mast at a fairly high load area. I shorten the topping lift when motoring. I am very nervous

I just recently replaced my lifelines with covered Dyneema. It is fantastic!, by far the way to go. very easy and I did my own spicing. Got a deal on some closeout line at West Marine. Brian SV
