Re: Prop Nut Anode

Ron,

The zinc prop nut is the most practical solution to anodizing your boat.? Many sailboats have exposed shaft and a strut that they can apply a collar type zinc to but with the T27 that is not an option since there is minimal shaft protruding from the cutlass bearing.? A zinc nut holding the shaft on is kind of an ideal solution.?

Instead, on my boat I lengthened the shaft by about 3/4" and then had room to place an off the shelf zinc collar on the shaft snug up with the propellor and deadwood around the cutlass.? Prop guidlines suggest that a prop not be suspended more than the shaft diameter in distance from the hull or strut.

I remember having trouble sourcing a zinc prop nut for my setup but I probably could have done it that way when I replaced the old shaft with a new SS one that was threaded at the taper ten years or so ago.
