Re: deck work

Dear Tartaners,

I have a long deck crack down the center of the foredeck. (The boat was improperly repaired a decade ago). The core is delaminated about 4" on either side of the crack....maybe wet beyond that. Water has found its way down to the aft end of the 2x4 glassed in above the v- berth, and drips from there.

My plan is to use a router (hooked up to a shop vac) to remove that strip of deck, core, and the rotten parts of trhe 2X4...all from above (leaving the v-berth ceiling intact and supported from below). I will open the deck as wide as necessary until I find dry, solid core. I will then glass in a new 2x4 (oak?). After re-coring and re- glassing up to deck level, I plan to epoxy teak strips to the deck rather than attempt to create a new non-skid. Also, I will replace the single bow cleat with port and starboard cleats (with backing plates).

Any suggestions or advice gratefully appreciated. I will post pics.

Thanks!
Marty (Vancouver)
