Moving to groups.io SunfishSailor 11
Hi Due to the eliminationn of all Yahoo Groups Files, Photos and Conversations we will take the Files and Photos and move them to /g/SunfishSailor As Owner of the Sunfish_Sailor Yahoo Group I have applied to have the Yahoo Group conversations moved over, but I am not sure how that is going to look. They messaged me that it might take a month for all of the information to move. We will also put material over on The Sunfish Forum. Please check out /g/SunfishSailor and consider creating an account there. It is free for basic membership. Bring over your photos and files if you like, or at least grab copies before Yahoo deletes them. Thanks Kent

Posting a Message 6
Aloha Well it was confusing to me on how to post a new message here, what I have found so far is to click on the New Topic button to the left of the page (on my macbook anyway). I thought maybe there would be a New Message button on the Messages page, haven't found it yet if there is... 1971 AMF "Ray" of Hope's Float Test. She passed, so we waxed her up, then put on replacement hardware and coaming that Alan sent us. -- Cheers Clark and Skipper Our blog Small Boat Restoration Our book The Sunfish Owners Manual

Yahoo Groups files are going away (including sunfish_sailor) 16
[Note that the email list will still work, but not the files, photos, etc. If you want any of that, download copies soon!] https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2019/10/yahoo-is-deleting-all-content-ever-posted-to-yahoo-groups/ Yahoo Groups is shutting down after more than 18 years, and the Verizon-owned company is deleting all content from the site in mid-December. "Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site," the company said in a notice to users. "Beginning October 28, you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded." The notice links to one Yahoo webpage that provides instructions for downloading photos and files from groups that you belong to before the cutoff date, but the process sounds laborious, as it requires clicking on each photo or file you want to download. The shutdown notice also links to a page that provides instructions for requesting a download of all your Yahoo data. This page notes that "It can take up to 30 days for the request to finish processing and the download to become available." Although the Yahoo Groups site will continue to exist after December 14, "all public groups will be made private or restricted," Yahoo said. Users will continue to "be able to communicate with your groups via email and search for private groups on the site," and admins will retain "limited access to group settings and administration tools," but that's it. All of the following features are going away, Yahoo said: Files Polls Links Photos Folders Calendar Database Attachments Conversations Email Updates Message Digest Message History

Fish Autographed by Al and Cort 2
Came across a photo in the Yahoo Group Sunfish_Sailor photos, uploaded by japfister in 2003. Does anyone have any information on the photograph or the boat, autographed by Alex, Cort (ALCORT) and Bruce? I haven't figured out if it is a Sailfish or Sunfish yet, the side seems to tuck back quick like the Sailfish. She's old, check out the yoke on the boom. Or any info on the person who uploaded the photo? Cheers, Clark and Skipper

Yahoo! removing ability to add to and eventually store files 4
Hi all, I'm not sure if Kent has backed up all the files content? There is so much fine, helpful information hosted through this Yahoo!Group the thought of it all being deleted causes me great trouble. This has been a go to source for almost 20 years. Is there another platform that would be suitable? The email group service is going to remain active, at least as far as they have determined. --Gail

Blue & Gold Sail [1 Attachment]
The 2019 World’s sail (blue, white, yellow) is quite nice. Contact LP if interested.

Blue & Gold Sail 2
I’m looking for a blue and gold (yellow) racing sail that looks similar to my 1971 Ratsey & Lapthorn. With or without numbers is fine, but it’s gotta have a window. The 2008 Worlds (Canada) sail is pretty close and I’m wondering if someone here has one they haven’t used much. The 2011 Worlds (Curacao) sail had similar colors so that might be okay instead. If you know of someone that might have one feel free to pass this along. Thanks!

Sailboat getting too heavy to pull up on beach 17
My mini sunfish has taken on a great deal of added weight. I took off the plug and drained a ton of water out of it but it is still too heavy for me to drag from the water onto my beach. Any ideas why this is happening and any ideas for a solution? I tried putting 2 sets of skateboards down wheel side up and rolling the boat over them- which worked for a couple of years- but now even that’s not working!

Sunfish rudder spring replacement 3
One of the springs on my rudder is missing. I took the remaining one to my local hardware store to find a replacement. They had one that was close, but not an exact match. Anyone know if there is a standard spring that can be used? The ones I've seen online specifically for Sunfish are quite expensive. Thanks for any help! Eli

dagerboard
Hi Ted, I had been waiting to pay you for the daggerboard until you got back to me about any other gear and whether you wanted to sell me the dolly. But since I haven't heard from you, although I'm still interested in that stuff, I really need to pay you at this point (unless I've already mailed you a check and forgotten about it). And I know you sent me your address once but now I can't find it in my computer. Please send your address again and remind me how much I owe you (I think it was $150 but I'm not really sure). And, of course, if you found the ratchet block and any other equipment, and want to ship me the dolly, that would be great. Hope you're having a nice summer. Ours has been hellishly warm/humid. We literally missed the first two months of our sailing season because of our lake, being connected with the Mississippi River, which was in flood stage and crested on three different occasions. But we've had some great racing since July 1 and I have made it to two Laser regattas and one Sunfish of that (three other sunfish regattas this month if I am lucky). Best regards, Mark Mark A. Bow Handle Replacement 8
Solicitng advice on the best way to remove the screws from the (original!) bow handle of my '74 Sunfish. I looked through the files and pics, but saw no reference to the bow handle. 1) Any tricks to avoid breaking the screw? How to deal with breakage? 2) I found a replacement handle on Amazon for $16. Any other suggestions? Looks the same, but I am unsure of fitment... 3) What's the correct screw size to re-attach? Thanks, Bob

Issues and questions rigging a new boat - hardware placement on boom, attaching sail 11
Has anyone had difficulty rigging their boat with the lines, hardware and parts provided? I just got a new "race" version that arrived this weekend and I discovered (in addition to the fact that I expected it to have numbers on the sail and a wooden tiller along with a wooden rudder and centerboard that it did actually come with, that I asked especially for) that the plastic rings all but refuse to go around the spars to keep the sail in place. The "S" hook that is supposed to keep the tack corner of the sail in place between the boom and the upper spar refuses to be "crimped". There is no cleat on the boom at the clew end of the sail to keep the outhaul in place after adjusting it and instead the instructions seem to suggest making the outhaul setting more permanent by wrapping the skinny waxy pink line they sent to use marked "out haul" around the boom and tie a clove hitch on the boom. Is that right? Why are the cleats on the boom so far forward? Is the outhaul supposed to be able to be adjusted there? My cleats run 8'4" forward. It sits right above the forward pulley for the mainsheet. There is another cam cleat facing the other direction 18 inches farther forward. Are there any tricks to getting it rigged? It seems like the instructions which they sent with the boat that are on the LaserPerformance.com website were written in the 70s and the rigging has been modified since then.

Issues and questions rigging a new boat - hardware placement on boom, attaching sail 2
Steve, I’d never watched the second video about alternate rigging before now. Great work! I watched the first one repeatedly when I was learning how to rig up my new-to-me Sunfish. Well done! Thanks for your fine work. Bill Miranda

Sunfish Sail Help 4
I replaced my sail a couple of years ago with a sail that seemed too stiff and papery. Now my fears have turned out to be true. Despite carefully rolling the sail to prevent creases when stowed, it developed a number of splits, and now the tack has torn away. I want to get a new one, but I want to avoid the same kind of material, and get one that feels like cloth. Can someone recommend what kind to get? Pics posted. Thanks, Jay Kenty New Hampshire
