Well it was confusing to me on how to post a new message here, what I have found so far is to click on the New Topic button to the left of the page (on my macbook anyway). I thought maybe there would be a New Message button on the Messages page, haven't found it yet if there is...

1971 AMF "Ray" of Hope's Float Test. She passed, so we waxed her up, then put on replacement hardware and coaming that Alan sent us.

Since others are posting pics, I thought I'd do the same.? This is the 'before' pic from a heavily modified super sailfish.??
I'm told that my father built it in the early 50's, but being a racer he heavily modified it because he didn't feel it was fast?
enough.? It has the old style rudder, but the attachment to the boat appears to be custom.? I remember him complaining?
about the tip-up rudder.? It never had a bridle for the main sheet, it currently just attaches to an eye bolt on the rudder handle.

After this trip, it leaked enough that it's time to pull it apart and rebuild it.

Hi Shawn

She looks awesome. The coaming is different, for awhile in the early 50s Alcort offered a "Deluxe 12" and a "Deluxe 14" that had a coaming. The one on your boat makes a lot of sense. The rudder fitting screw holes also appear to be pre "old style rudder", the patented bronze assembly came around in 1953. I'd date her 1951-1953.

Great piece of history there. Do you have the sail rig?

As for pulling her apart, you may want to do an air leak test and find the leaks, perhaps a few small repairs are all she needs.

Does she have a name?

Thanks -- Yes I have the full sailing rig, and it's all in great shape.? My mom doesn't remember when he built it,?
only that they took it with them on a family trip in 1956.? It's setup with a wooden mast, boom, etc.? The sails are
laced on with twine through grommets along it's length.? Unfortunately I don't have any good pictures,?
but when I measured it, it's a little over 200 square feet (my mom remembers him using her sewing machine to make it).??
When you're sailing the boat the boom is about 6-10" above the deck.? We also need to be careful? when setting it up?
that the bottom of the sail and boom are level or pitched slightly up so it doesn't hit the water when you're running?
downwind with the sail way out to the side.

Unfortunately, it needs to be re-done.? When I roll it around I can hear pieces rattling around inside.? The rudder bracket also?
ripped off of the transom (as seen in the photo) for the 2nd time.? Last time I filled the holes with epoxy and wood flour, sanded?

My plan is to keep this one (for nostalgia) and to make an exact duplicate.? Though I'm thinking about side-rails for bracing while
sailing would be a big help -- almost slid off this summer when we had it healed up and flying. I'll probably re-use the sailing?

No, it doesn't have a name.? It also used to have some red striping (to to with the red sail) but I didn't re-add it when I painted it last.

She looks a lot like one of my boats with 14' "Flying Fish" decals that were trade marked under the California Kit Boat Co. of Newport Beach, CA back in 1952.? See below.
