Re: 2024/25 Membership For Another Year of SubaruVanagon

Cool story, I might have told it.? I was just sitting there one time, about 2007.? At Busses by the Bridge, Lake Havasu.? A very tall man walked right up to my Tintop Vanagon, with homebuilt camper setup inside.? He was about 6'5" or so.? He sprawled himself right into my van, checked it out.? He said, "Hey, I like this, it's nice."? We talked a little more, he said he knew about Subaru conversions, something I had been thinking about.? He said they are pretty good.? I asked him his name.? He said, "Warren Chapman".

Hey gang.
Just wanted to give you a financial tally of our fund-raising efforts today.
In a period of roughly 7 hours we received donations of $299.??
Because of the generosity of donating parties last year, we still had $176 in the coffers.
So, we're going forward with $475 in the bank.? $220 will be deducted for subscription fees on December 5th and we'll have already covered next years subscription fees as well with a $255 overage.
?
Thanks to every one of you for submitting your knowledge and support via our messages and for your donations.
Keep those vanagons alive!!!
Best,
Brent

Morning Folks.
It¡¯s been 5 years since we migrated our group off of yahoo groups over here to?Groups.io.
To give you a short history, we migrated in 2019 and have run off of membership funding since that time.
Our group uses more than the allotted 1 gig of photo/attachment/files storage which is available for a free group.
A poll/vote was held in November of 2020 wherein members voted to maintain all of our content and fund the group.
The next step up from free is the Premium Group which is how we roll.

Our group fee of USD $220.00 is due on Thursday, December 5, 2024 for the next twelve months. ?We still have $176 left over from last years donations. ?So - we¡¯re hoping to get $44 this year.
In years past I asked for donations to be made directly to me as I am ultimately responsible for the payment to?Groups.io.
But now, I¡¯ve configured the group to allow donations/sponsorships through a newly available built-in function.
I believe this will make things easier on you, the supporting member and I will not be tempted to abscond with funds to support another year in sunny Mexico!!
There¡¯s a minimum sponsorship amount of $5.00 USD. ?
I¡¯ll track the sponsorship activity/amount and once we reach our goal I¡¯ll send another notification to you all and disable the sponsorship link.
Wondering how to sponsor us?
Go to the home page at?/g/SubaruVanagon/
Click on the ¡°+ Sponsor This Group: button.
Or, if you want to save a step, browse directly to?/g/SubaruVanagon/sponsor
Fill out the form fields to complete your sponsor donation via PayPal or Credit Card.? Depending on where you live in the world, there may be additional payment methods available to you.
Thanks very much for your continued support of the SubaruVanagon group. Your shared knowledge, conversion support posts, and sponsorship, are very much appreciated.?

Re: Timing belt for 2.2

Subaru dealers will also tell you the OEM water pumps dont fail. AISIN is a good replacement compared to the dealer as they make water pumps for subaru. Oil pumps I have been reading up on lately as I was under the impression one should upgrade the 10mm one that is on most 2.5NA models that people use for vans with an STI 11mm or 12mm. Apparently low idles on these larger oil pumps can cause cavitation and oil frothing. I was looking at a couple of companies that take the OEM pump and replace the pressure release and go through it and then rebrand and sell them as a performance product. I am considering one of these in a 10mm. They can apparently function slightly better at high RPMS, which is the benefit of going with a larger pump. So maybe if youll on the highways alot at high RPM a larger one would work for you. Im interested to hear if anyone has any first hand knowledge as I am building my motor up as we speak. So far i have settled on ARP head studs as an upgrade and also aftermarket valve guides, possibly a fancy oil pump, a reinforced IAG timing belt because it comes in red, the IAG timing belt guide as my motor donor was an auto and maybe, just maybe the clear timing belt cover but that would only also be for engine bling,? but everything else OEM.?

Over the years I¡¯ve heard of a few (very few) water pump failures, mostly due to bearing failure or impeller damage.
Oil Pumps: ?I¡¯ve heard of way less oil pump failures. ?In fact, many folks, including me, do not replace the oil pump as part of preparation of the Subaru engine for service in our vanagons.
But, anything you replace with a good quality part is a good precaution against future failures.

Send an email or call Jeff at AVSubaruConversions. They sell high quality Japanese kits. Six star, aisin, etc. If they don¡¯t have everything listed on their web site, they can get it and drop ship directly to you. Everything is on sale now too. If you know the subaru part numbers for everything you want that helps to expedite the process. I needed to put together a kit for a EJ25D DOHC engine. Kits were no longer listed on my favorite sites so I called Jeff. He put everything together for me and prices were great.

Re: Timing belt for 2.2

Oof. We're at 8 years since the motor install but only 29,000 miles. Time for some fun it seems.

Re: Timing belt for 2.2

seven years or 105,000 miles
?
But this one is all unknown, so it seems like a good thing to do.

Re: Timing belt for 2.2

What is the recommended service interval for the timing belt?

Re: Timing belt for 2.2

Aisin TB Kit (WP included). Oil separator cover if it's not the metal one. Crank and cam seals. Valve cover seals and spark plug tube seals. PCV and coolant temp sensor?

Re: Timing belt for 2.2

Belt. non-interference
