Re: Galley plug leak
This plug should be tight, 40-50 ftlbs.
Not sure what you mean by "permatex", it is a brand name not a product

Re: accidentally tried to start with ECU unplugged, now won't start
One wonders if the ecu grounds were helping to supply a current path for starter operation...
and that's why the issue became apparent when the ecu was disconnected.
Do you have the stock vanagon

Galley plug leak
Hi Group,
I've got a pretty significant oil leak (~1/2qt per fill-up) from the galley
plug that's under the IAC valve ('90 EJ22). This is one of the big plugs

Good to hear there wasn't any harm done cranking the engine.
I'll check connections/grounds and see if I can figure out what

Re: accidentally tried to start with ECU unplugged, now won't start
Hi,
no harm at all in cranking the engine on the starter with the ECU unplugged.
Don't even give that, by itself, a thought.

Re: 2.5 engine hunting/surging issue
Sound like poor IAC to me.
Try to remove IAC from engine , clean them with solvent. This is easy job if you know what and where to do . Every suby should do this cleaning before install engine to the

Re: 2.5 engine hunting/surging issue
I had a similar problem, and I was pulling IAC codes, it turned out to be a broken wire right by the connector to the IAC.
Hows does it run while driving? mine would hit the rev limiter at about

Re: Starter replacement
Having an 84 side by side with an 87 I discovered the 87 had a larger gauge battery cable (probably due to the larger 2.1 engine size), SO I put the larger one one my 84 svx, it is an easy swap and
