Re: Ej25 wiringf lengths & ecu mounting

shows old school engine harness connector plugs at 3pm position. if
your connectors are at 11am just use the existing measurements shown
in diagram to plan for their finished location.

Ej25 wiringf lengths & ecu mounting

Hey everybody.
Thanks answering all my questions and posting opinions about current part for conversions. Most helpful. I have been wondering what people have found for wiring lengths. It seems that the distance from ecu to engine plugs are plenty when mounting the ecu under the seat. I am looking at how to mount the ecu under the rear seat. I am kind of looking at some diffrent containers that I could mount to the seat. Is the wiring length pretty tight or should I expect a little room to play with. How much space have people dedicated to the ecu ground and relay area? I have checked out some of the photos in the files section and would realy appriciate some thoughts and numbers. Thanks a lot
Dustin

Hi folks. I'm not sure I understand what 'Stuttering' means. Is this 'hesitation' or 'cutting out' ? Perhaps 'stumbling' ?

Excuse me but I am not being perverse, but this description is unknown to me.

FYI: Tech for over 45 years... European Specialist. If I understand the problem correctly I woud say stumble or hesitation. If this is the case, I would first monitor the 02 response . If it seems to run lean I should suggest miss fire.... plugs or wires. If it is running rich, MAF or CTS problem.

If none ofabove, a dose of STABILANT22A on all connectors for the EFI.

Denatured alcohol will leave the pin to socket dry and at worse, change pin/socket relative resistance. As you can imagine, increased resistance would alter senor input to the ECM and in the case of the CTS, would richen up the mixture some.

This also applies to the Subaru MAF as it is sensitive to in/out millivolt signals.

A very similar issue with my ej 22 and I spent a great deal of time going through different pieces from MAF to spark plugs etc.
Final solution was simple.
Cleaned the main connection of the engine harness to the computer with some denatured alcohol and the problem went away.
Applying the KISS principal is important.

Thanks Joshua, but I'm guessing that means you were having difficulty with the starter turning over?
In my case the starter is spinning things up very quickly, but to no effect.

This is a 94 ej22 in a 4 speed van.

Intermittent hard start, only noticed it when the engine is warm.

Engine spins nicely from the starter without any hint of starting.
No sputtering, coughing etc, just like spinning it without any plugs.

Only way I've found to start it when it's in this mode is following:

Gas pedal all the way down and held there, after about 10 long seconds
it sounds like one cylinder starts to fire, then 2.
With the pedal held down, after a total of 20-30 seconds of cranking
the rest come on, sputtering, then full on.

Once running and in this mode, idle is much higher than the normal.
No tach but I'm guesstimating around 1500-2000.

As long as the idle is elevated like this, I know that if I turn off
the engine it will require the above method to start again.

This may last a day or two, then disappear for several or 6 months.

Ideas of possible causes would be appreciated!

Re: after market Electronic Control recommendations needed

Link ECU and many others are not legal here in CA (offroad only)
Stock ECU IS ideal engine control. ECU doesn't make engine run rough

I have had a expensive and negative experience with LINK.

That was 6 + yrs ago and they may have changed.

Im just saying proceed with caution, ask for successful customers you can call and verify.

inspect inside it. I do need to service the fuel gage sender though, it only shows half full ill
inspect the inside of tank then . Shouldnt be to hard to do on a syncro.

My 2.5 was recently cutting out at higher speeds--like you turned the key off for a half second. It would sometimes do the same while accelerating. It ran fine at lower speeds. I finally noticed that the plug wires had some cracks in them. New wires fixed it (NGK from Advance Stores).

Do you know about checking the engine at night for visible sparking and crossover? Higher load on the engine brings out ignition faults. Just an idea.

Re: MY ej 22 is stuttering

Start with simple checks
like listen to fuel pump working, strange noises indicate clogged fuel
filter, clogged fuel tank or pump itself
Engine needs most fuel when accelerating hard, it "stutters" if there is
not enough
