Re: SubaruVanagon Parts/Servicing/Installers Database Now Available
Is there also a place where person making the report what work they had the shop do and how happy they were with it? .... That can really be super valuable information in these reports.... And I guess it would be valuable if others having similar or opposite results would also be able to post for that vendor Fwiw, I clicked on the link but haven't seen the database yet because I don't remember my username and password and interact with these messages only by email. Hey gang.? I've gotten a couple of notes from folks that were hesitant to enter their own records into the database.
If you are naturally technology phobic feel free to send me the info for a vendor you'd like entered into the database and I'll do the data entry.
Data I'll need:
Name of Vendor
URL/Link to vendor website
What services do they provide?? Parts? Complete Conversion Installation? Conversion Servicing?? Let me know if they provide one or more of these services.
Any other notes that describe the vendor.
?
Best,

Re: New motor
My ej22 was cleaned up and mounted by Rigo's Garage in?El Paso maybe 7 years ago.? ?I did the plumbing & electrical myself.? The motor has been no trouble whatsoever.? Was highly recommended by a few people.? It seems that much of their business is making "souped up" subaru racing cars.? ?I have been very happy with their work.?? |

Re: New motor
Might work to start with something like what Larry Chase () created 20/30 years ago, and “whittle it down”. Maybe contact Lar and get his wisdom? Bob

Re: New motor
if someone?(not me) was inspired to compile a summary of these results?it could?really help the community...maybe we have something?like a sticky or we can post the results on a site that does like Samba (Brents call on that I'd guess)....Really good info in these posts! Re: New motor
开云体育I like what a previous message said about Rocky Mountain Westy in Fort Collins, CO. ?My experience has been that they are always sticklers for quality and that their parts will not just fix your van but will actually improve your van. ?RMW recommends the 2000-2004 EJ25 for combination of adequate power and ease of maintenance without the complicated electronics of more modern engines that SmallCar deals with. For a reliable builder closer to Phoenix that is always a stickler for quality I would strongly suggest reaching out to Adrian from Vanagon City in Torrance California (310) 308-7864. ?Adrian works closely with OutFront Motors and, just like Rocky Mountain Westy, is always a stickler for the highest quality parts and components in his builds. ?He won’t use rebuilt short blocks and prefers Subaru factory new ones adding on better quality pistons, gaskets, etc. ?He does for the EJ motors what GoWesty does for the Waterboxer - carefully turns them into hot rod versions of their previous selves. He can make stock engines, Frankenmotors and souped up strokers to make your van drive like a Camaro. ? You can check out his work on his facebook page or instagram: ? ?Cheers and enjoy the ride! ? kevin? |
Re: New motor

From threadhread $1800ish is a good price for a rebuilt short block.
?
"Hummed and hawed over this for awhile, and finally decided to go with the reman short block from PNW Subaru (East Side Subaru dealership in Kirkland, WA) for $1800-ish plus $200 core charge. Also ordered Six Star gaskets and new head bolts, along with a bunch of stuff from Rock Auto (there is a lot of debate about reusing head bolts, but for $80, I might as well go new). I'll get my heads machined at Magnum in Burnaby, carefully looking for any cracks. This wasn't the cheapest way to go, but I should have a pretty solid engine by the time I am done. Starting the tear down this weekend, and will update as I go!"

Re: New motor
开云体育Unfortunately I had a very different experience at S & S. I had detailed it previously and don’t want to rehash everything, but i could never recommend anyone do business with Steve. Call around to some other reputable Subaru shops down in Southern California and I know you’ll get the same advice from them.?On Jul 21, 2024, at 11:33?AM, Alex De Guzman <azianspirit@...> wrote:

Re: New motor
Thank you for the good report.? I too have been very satisfied with my EJ22 from Steve, who supplies all motors to Ceasar at California Westys in El Cajon.? I did in 2015, and zero troubles after 75K miles.? I never met the man.

Re: New motor
Hi Sean,? I took my donor car's 2002 2.5 engine to Rocky Mountain Westy in Fort Collins, CO.? They got me a new shortblock from Subaru directly and had the rest machined/checked with a local shop.? They can also coordinate rebuilds from Subaru.? That was 6+ years ago and that engine is probably going on 30K miles and no issues.? I've been continually impressed with any of my routine dealings with Rocky Mountain Westy.? It helps that I live in Fort Collins, but I would certainly recommend them.?? |

Which Metric?Motors?? Googling that name has all sorts of results. Why would?that be better?than a new short block from Subaru directly? Andy Vanis USA and Whatsapp +1(505) 304-5306 On Fri, Jul 19, 2024 at 9:54?PM Bob Stevens via <mtbiker62=[email protected]> wrote:
