Re: ECU reset

Richard, I've been trying to understand your suggestion to disconnect battery ground then connect positve to that ground. Won't this still create a short and wreak havoc on the capacitors? Maybe I'm not understanding which positive and ground wires are involved?

Re: Anyone want a free chipped EG33 ECU and/or MAF sensor?

It will most likely be a D1, although the tune chip would be an aftermarket addon. All OBD1 versions ('91 to '94) are interchangable, I think. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, as I have limited investigative knowledge and would like to know more.

Not sure about version. I believe it came out of a '92. It has an EcuTune chip.?

Re: Engine rapidly off/on/off/on/off/on at speed

I am not sure if this is relevant or not....but I have an old Audiovox CCS-100 Cruise Control on my Vanagon with EJ22.? It works Fantastic!? It uses magnets on axles to determine speed.? Well...I replaced those magnets with modern ones....you know, the rare earth metal kind.? Before, if I would hit a bump in the road, the Cruise Control would lose it's mind and shut down.? Now, with powerful rare earth magnets, everything goes just fine, bumps in road or not.? It made a huge difference.

Sorry you¡¯re having trouble with your conversion.
Because you have a non stock ecu we will have difficulty supporting you.
My suggestion is to use the conversion mechanic, and/or the ecu vendor (in that order) to get support for the issue.
Non stock component support conversations have limited value to our group as a whole and I will discourage them.

Re: ECU reset

What plugs and gap are you running Sean? Copper or platinum NGKs ran best at 0.043-0.044 I've found with my 02. Smaller resulted in high end bogging.

Re: Engine rapidly off/on/off/on/off/on at speed

Yes 4mm? seems big. I set my SC VSS distance at 0.045 with a feeler gauge just like the plugs.

Re: ECU reset

It's easy to reset ECU to factory settings.? This is especially needed after cleaning out all the gunk in IACV and Throttle body and new PCV valve and associated hoses.? Reason is:? ECU still has old info stored in it, as it was desperately trying to overcome gunk.? To delete all old info in ECU, you've got to drain all electricity stored in it's capacitors, which functions to maintain memory.? First, disconnect Negative at battery.? Second, run a jumper from Positive to that removed ground wire.? Let it sit overnight.? Hook back up.? Immediately RPM's will race towards 3000 or so.? Don't panic.? It will take about 20 cycles of startup, drive, shut down for things to settle down as ECU "learns" new parameters.? Now the ECU will do all the stuff it was designed to do. BTW...this info is for 2.2 motor....but I am sure it's similar for others.

I still have some bogging at hard acceleration and very minor reving after warm up at a stop light. Yes my IAC is clean and im gonna have the TPS checked and set to proper voltage. Gonna also check vacuum hoses as well as pcv stack.

Re: Engine rapidly off/on/off/on/off/on at speed

I argue this is basic for working condition, but I thought your issue was at 65 mph +.?
Dont you already know it works at speeds below 65 mph ? I thought that was implicit or verified.

Just trying to keep the troubleshooting focused on your issue, above 65 mph. Not discount advice :-)
