Is the VSS input to ECU supposed to have 5V when no sensor is connected?
I have a wiring harness from AutoVentures, great harness, but I am trying to connect the VSS, but that signal from the ECU always has 5V on it. I would have thought it would be 0 and I supply the signal. ?Maybe its more of an NPN where you supply the ground ?

Hey folks. ?With some helpful guidance from members I got to thinking about some of the postings that deal with versions of our Vanagon conversions that are known offenders of California smog laws - as silly as they may be.
?
Anyways, I would urge you to use discretion, or direct email, when discussing which vendors build motors that are known to be illegal in their state. ?I¡¯d hate to think that this forum would be the impetus behind a conversion related vendor getting hassled.

Call me paranoid if that makes you feel better. ?Just let¡¯s be careful.

Re: Oil pressure sending unit
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBSP is the thread on the OEM oil sender.? BSP can seal without any thread sealant while NPT always needs sealant.? BSP is just another little Subaru quirk.? If there is an insert in your engine it was likely a repair done after being buggered by an incorrect NPT ?installation attempt (oil pressure line).? Repair was likely done as part of a rebuild. ? Re: Oil pressure sending unit
Hi Bob,
If it's the simple grounding switch you're talking about, I just replaced my leaking one, with part# PS160 , but I don't know if it is the original part, as there is a thread adapter into the oil chamber. The thread on the PS160 is 1/8BSP which surprised me.? I have only owned the van 6 months, the conversion was done about 15yrs ago. Bernie. 1985 Vanagon Westfalia, EJ22 (I think 1992) Nova Scotia. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSubiWorks will and I think Outfront does too. S&S performance made me one, but I can¡¯t recommend them unfortunately.?On May 25, 2023, at 4:54 PM, Stephen Crump <crumpco@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI imagine someone on this forum does, but be careful about smogging. Some smog places won¡¯t pass you because you have a block with different heads. However, if already have a way around this issue then have it!? On May 25, 2023, at 4:54 PM, Stephen Crump <crumpco@...> wrote:

Acceleration sender / signal
Hey folks,? I sorted out things with temp sender (finally I drilled another hole, placed VW and wired it to the dash gauge). It works (I checked it with the Scan Gauge 2 readings). Now another challenge. I don¡¯t know how should I connect the acceleration sender. To be more precise no clue where it should be connected to (to provide the signal). Sorry for my technical English, I guess there is room for improvements. |
Re: Does RJES bell housing jive with RMW?
No VAT, at least. If it's shipped to the US no sales tax, and duties are pretty reasonable, too. On Tue, May 23, 2023 at 8:23?AM Scotty <schlivitz@...> wrote: James, |

Hey Scotty. Im sure you¡¯ll get some valuable feedback regarding compatibility of parts here.? Quick piece of advice¡.put together your component listing and give RMW a ring to check their knowledge on the situation. Our vendors are typically happy to help with inquiries like yours.? Best |
Does RJES bell housing jive with RMW?
For those who know stuff,
I bought a 2006 Impreza yesterday and drove it 3 hours home to East Tennessee. ?2.5 SOHC seems to run great but we¡¯re gonna go through it before putting it in the van (1991 2WD). I really like the RJES bell housing and I plan to order one. ?But I understand that the engine will be further forward than with an adapter kit. ?Does this cause issues when using parts from suppliers here in America whose kits use an adapter plate? ?I¡¯m looking at using most of the RMW stuff, but will that work well with the bell housing???Especially their support/mount, will it still bolt up? I expect some wiggle room in the coolant plumbing and maybe exhaust. ?And I understand this isn¡¯t a Lego set either. ?But I want to be as prepared and informed as possible before I jump. Thanks in advance -- Scotty |
Re: Subaru temp sender
Gowesty makes a clever little 3D-printed holder for the Scan Gauge that clips on the dashboard and positions the gauge right below the instrument cluster. $16 USD, I believe. Works well for me.? On top, I bought the Scangauge 2 OBD2 device to either install somewhere in front of eyes or to be used temporarily to validate the standard dash gauge reading. Cheers! |
