I read the code via the black connectors. I used a test light hooked up to the check light wire in the ecu. The check light on the dash was wired to the odo counter only. No codes via the green

just curious - how do you know that you have a stored code if your check light isn't lit? is it a temporary code that you found with the green connectors? also, i hadn't heard of an early EJ22 ECU

If you remove keep somewhere where it wont get dinged up. Never know if you might sell your van. I would leave it in though. Plug the ends well to keep dirt out if your hoses are not connected. I

Dave, If you ever intend to travel to hot climates in the summer, I'd leave the parts in. It wouldn't be too hard to source the other parts and pieces, and adapt the EJ compressor hoses to the VW
