I have the VW canister but it is not in use at the moment. Something to explore for sure, if that is something that helped your situation.
Currently in the "complete tune up and search for vacuum leaks" mode - even have the throttle body off complete, getting new gasket and cleaning absolutely everything, checking all vacuum lines, etc.
