Re: Exhaust by Vanaru

yes, flex pipe won't help now but could prevent cracks if installed
during conversion
i would talk to SC about cracks.
There is no header out there guaranteed to last long time, they are all
"aftermarket"
none were designed as integral part of vehicle but had to be adapted to
"hybrid" of VW and Subaru and have limitations

Unfortunately a flex pipe wouldn't help on two of my cracks. They are
parallel with the pipe on the bends immediately under the two drivers
side ports. I'm just done with it and don't want to throw good money
after bad. So I'm looking at alternatives.

washboards, dirt, sand and mud for 6 years
no cracks no problems and no flaking coatings
i have flex tube welded into J-pipe

Does anyone have first hand experience with Vanaru's exhaust
headers? Any
problems with cracking? Rusting? They are $200 more than
smallcar's but
they sound like a better product. I would like an exhaust that
tucks up
(like smallcar's) and will last.

Just my suggestion: go mild steel with ceramic coating. It will NOT
crack,
and will last a long time. For some reason, these
conversion exhaust systems don't seem to tolerate the needed design
changes
AND the use of SS.

I've had this experience with SS on 2.2 and 3.0 Subaru motors,
and my
current mild steel and coating is going quite strong at
2 years and 33K miles.
