Hi Larry,
Congrats on the new Subaru. I think we may have spoken on the phone
a couple of months back about Subaru engines.

Enough talking already....I'm committed (or ought to be!)....
Just purchased 1990 Legacy for its 2.2 liter engine and want to
install this into my 1985 VW Westy Vanagon; some questions:
-I bought entire running car....must pull my own parts (engine,
wires, sensors, elect.brain, etc. So has anyone removed fender to
get wiring...etc. ..any insights before I light my torch?
I pulled the fender on mine. As I recall there were a bunch of
cheesy plastic phillips screws that held the liner in and the rest
were 10 mm head bolts around the perimiter. Some were not right out
in the open but were accesable.
-Easy place to get a subaru electrical diagram for 1990 Legacy?
There is a 1990 soob wire diagram on the net somewhere (might even be
attached to an archive here somewhere). It's a little hard to read
but that and the roadcow plug diagrams were all I used. I have it at
home on my machine. If you don't come up with it let me know in a
few days and I will send you a copy.
-Can I use my 1990 Legacy cruise control in my vanagon that
factory forgot to install a cruise control?
Have not done anything with cruise control yet, but plan on to.
-I plan to rebuild my subaru engine, it runs well BUT HAS 220k
miles. Any good sources for such parts???
For parts there is a place in Oregon called Discount Import Parts
that sold me a complete brand new sachs clutch, plate and t/o bearing
for $136. They seemed to have good prices and were able to ship
parts. I'll get you that number when I get back home too.
*-What electrical items do I remove and leave in the Vanagon
before I install my new Subie engine????
I'd leave all the vanagon electrical parts in the van until after you
have built the wire harness. By then you will have a better idea of
what goes where. It's not really spelled out anywhere but when it
came time it made sense for the most part.
I really need all inputs possible here so if you have any
experience,
or working knowledge or leading, pls. contact me.

Also there are a lot of issues that have been addressed here already
and can be searched out. One thing that is helpful is to put as much
info in the subject line when you post questions or comments to make
it easier for others to search later.
Keep us posted on your progress. It took me about 3 months from the
time my engine tried to melt down and when I got it on the road. I
reread the Roadcow and Myers websites many times and studied the
pictures. Tons of info there. Enjoy!!
