Re: Steady rest for a heavy 10
I've been keeping an eye out for one myself. My Heavy 10L came the taper attachment, two 5c collet closers, a regular and turret tailstocks, and a cabinet. The steady rests seem to be rare, so I've been gathering ideas on various ways to make one. And I have to actually finish the restoration, which has been on hold for over a year now. Once I get the shop done, I should have what I need to do that, as well. Good luck, and I'm not competing for one until mine gets the full restoration. The Atomic ELS is, IIRC, a Russian invention. Most of the info is on a site in Russia, I think. I'm a member of the IO group, but never made it to the Russian source. You should have probably mentioned that he needs to know the DP of the gears he wants to make so he knows how big a printer he needs to buy. My Atlas TH42 uses 16DP gears. The 127-tooth gear for cutting metric threads is a bit over 9" across, IIRC. I bought a 3D printer that has a 300mmx300mmx320mm build volume. That was before I got the Heavy 10L. IIRC, it uses 18DP gears, but I haven't actually checked that, since I need to get it restored before that is a real concern for me. Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.)
