Well, it looks a lot like those urethane tires that go on band saw wheels. ? It is stout stuff, with only a little bit of stretch. ?

Polyurethane belt has some good applications but it? is not ideal for any lathe. Yes it will work but it will not last and it will stretch badly.? ?

It looks like Steve sells some good stuff although I am curious about his belts and splicing method. I used to work for a printing company and took care of most the belts, splicing and training for belts splicing. Most the belts were for conveyors but many were rated as drive belts as well. Anyway, all the belt suppliers told me "there was no way to get a good strong splice without heat". They also told me that there were cold glues available but recommended against using them. I wonder is Steve uses a cold splice method??

I've been retired for about 7 years now but just over a years ago I found two spools of surplus 2-inch wide Habasit F1 belt material.? This is very good belt and good up to about 1.5 HP (possibly more). At the full 2-inch width it sells for $13/foot and I'm selling it at any width for $5/foot. I will splice for $5 and ship for $8.?

If you need to splice a belt on your lathe I can accommodate but the heater, guide and glue will add a 1-time cost of about $40.?

So a continuous (pre-spiced) belt might be $28-38 bucks and if you want to splice it yourself it's more like $68-78 (depending on length needed).

I've sold about 400 ft and have about 280ft left. Its not selling super quick but once its gone I'll be out of the belt business. New belt is just too dang high priced!?

Send me a private message if you are interested in a new belt and I'll give you price.

Include the length needed and tell me if you want it pre-spliced. (US Shipping only)

I would like a belt for a drill press 1-1/8 wide x 9 foot, I would want to splice it myself in place.

Let me know.

Regards

Harry?

??? Look in the yellow pages ( if they even still exist ) for a commercial belting co . They will cut to what ya want & if ya don' have a hangup with the alligator lacing they will lace the belt. Last composit belt I hade made for my South Bend was 10 bucks cut to fig & laced . The lacing don' bug me one bit , its the same as tapping yer foot .

I also have been thinking about the? issue of flat belts. If you live rural ask a farmer if they have discarded belts from a round baler.?? Asked a neighbor and he had several, 6 inches wide and 18 feet long. He also had the splicing tools.? It took some effort to cut them to size but I replaced the belts on 3 machines for zero dollars.
