I would guess McMaster Carr, although that are available from many sources, often cheaper.

Wrap a rope around the spindle and jack drive to get a length with the adjuster midway.

They come in ?” increments. You want a 1” width.

If it is a vintage lathe and you prefer leather, go to Baltimore Belting.? They can also provide modern synthetic belting.? Great company!

Hi Folks,
?
I've spent the last year rebuilding a 9A lathe, it's looking good
I'm about to re-assemble the headstock and before I do I have a question about the drive belt
It's a flat belt drive and most belts have what I believe is called a hog ring connector to connect the ends. Am I correct thinking those can be taken apart so they can be installed on the lathe or does it have to be installed before the spindle is installed?
?
Thanks?
Dave

Re: Drive belt queston

I call them eagle claws once you remove them the splice claws they?can not be reused it takes a belt splicing fixture to reinstall the claws. There are hammer in claws but good luck in finding them. If you need to install new claws I have a splicing fixture or tool. If you are close I will install a new splice for you where are you ??I am in SW Michigan??

I used a 455K6 - works great $6 on ebay,? Measure your length, the 1st 3 digits are the length, 445 = 44.5" long

Re: Drive belt queston

There is some talk of getting an automotive serpentine belt and using the smooth side with the ribbed side facing out. But.... if were it me, I'd try McMaster Carr part no. 6082K12
I haven't ordered this item from them myself, but it's the first place I'd go if I was doing this. That fact that you have the spindle out (yes?) is a bonus because you can install a seamless belt then put the headstock together. Unless you want the legit vintage tic tic tic of the old style hog ring belt:

https://www.mcmaster.com/#leather-belts/=1d00liw
https://www.mcmaster.com/#hog-ring-pliers/=1d00l9i

Length depends on your countershaft distance. The belt on my own 9A is 1" wide and 48" long.

Good luck.

I've heard it called a zipper.? You just pull the pin and thread the belt through.? Much easier than disassembling the headstock.
