Tim - Help is needed.

Dear Tim, Bob and Alyx don't know that I am doing this, but I thought of you and your group as soon as I read this. The stories that these two write are very good and show a professionalism that is awesome to look at. They have a sense of fun that shows through in their writing that reminds me of you and the Kinsfire duo. I think they would be a very good addition to your group. dave

FYI SIYE
Site Issues As many of you have noticed- SIYE is malfunctioning seriously. This is due to the fact that our host sold out and transferred us to another host. At this time, something is wrong and the only person able to fix it is someone from the hosting company- the problem with that is we don't know who our host is. This is unfortunately the weekend as well. Currently- we are not able to predict when everything will start working at SIYE again- I anticipate that it will be within a few days though. If you find yourself able to post stories or leave reviews in the near future- I advise you to wait until we give the go ahead on the main page. SIYE cannot be responsible for the loss of uploaded stories or reviews during this crisis. Please be patient while we try to get SIYE back online- if you know any other SIYE members who do not have access to SIYE Y!- please spread the word and link them to this group. Membership is not required to view posts- however, membership is required to post posts. (FYI, this post was made directly in the database - so we the admins are unable to access the site either.) Thank you! Robert L. Scott (Lord Dreadnault) Head Administrator of SIYE A Subsidiary of HGNetwork www.hgnetwork.co.uk

A quick note of thanks from the other half...
Hiya all, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone, Ya'll are the best! We looked at a lot of the suggested sites, but we're having trouble finding one that would accept our story (ship-wise) and won't take forever and a day to get the story back so EVERYONE can read it. Unfortunately, our group is age restricted, so we have quite a number of folks out there who can't read the files here. Many of the sites that have been suggested require either the beta process, some sort of approval process, or require us to wait for specific "New Author Submission" days. We understand why admins do this sort of thing, but that doesn't mean we can't be annoyed by it :D We were hoping to get quite a bit of writing done today, but it's going to have to wait for a bit, I think. Thanks for sticking with us and offering suggestions. We appreciate your support so much! ~Alyx~

Hosting offer...
I have about 5 megs on one vanity page, and 5 more on another. They're both MINE, and not controlled by anyone else the way FF.net is. The first is the vanity page I own through my ISP (therefore residing on the ISP's servers), the second is from my own domain, hosted at a college and again, not restricted by bandwidth. If need be, I can donate them for a time to the cause. Ed Becerra

Possible Sites you Might to Post At
2
Forgive me if someone has already mentioned these sites: HP Fandom http://hpfandom.net/eff/index.php This site welcomes all Harry Potter fics. Easy to move around, good serach engine, welcome fics G - NC-17 and will emails readers update concerning their favorite fics. Forever Fandom http://foreverfandom.com/index.php This site is like FF in many ways but doesn't censor it's writers. Biggest complaint I have with this site is that it doesn't let me know if someone update their fics. Adult Fic http://adultfan.nexcess.net/aff/ Many of your younger reader may not be able to visit this site because it has adult matural. Fiction Alley http://www.fictionalley.org/ If you're like me and not the world's best speller or good at grammer (my editors hate me.) then forget this site. They are beyond picky. FicWad http://www.ficwad.com/index.php An FF wantabe but it's not too bad. Live Journal http://www.livejournal.com/ It's harder for new fans to find you but it's not a bad placeto post your fics at and to rant atthe world My best suggestion would be HP Fandom and Forever Fandom. Both are reader and writer user friendly

i just tried to read the story on fanfiction.net and got this error FanFiction.Net Message ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- Story not found: storyid = 2480683. other works are still there

see what this site has
Hi all. Try www.mugglenet.com they have fanfiction see what they want for guidelines. Just a thought. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.344 / Virus Database: 267.10.20/95 - Release Date: 9/9/2005

Fanfic issues,
Jeez, I don't even really understand why they deleted it. I mean, the rule they semi-quote as being why Sunset got canned was under the "Entries not allowed" section; you haven't made an entry that was entirely "lists, bloopers, polls, previews, challenges, authr notes, and etc." as they list. So odd. I hope the administration there learns to see reason.

The complaints about Bobmin356
2
Hello, I was unpleasantly surprised to see the story Sunset Over Britain removed from your service, supposedly for Author Notes violations. I’m not sure who posted a complaint about it, but I would seriously question their judgment. If their (minimal and germane to the story) author notes are what you would consider “in violation of TOS”, then you should feel obligated to ban 90% of the people posting to your service. They write some of the best stories I’ve seen, and I’ve been working my way through their “favorites” list as a valuable litmus test for some of the… well, awful stuff that is present. (Hey, it’s community-generated content, so I understand.) I have yet to be disappointed by one of their picks, and participants like these are an asset to your community. Seeing their work even inspired me to start an account here, and got my wife reading their stories. No, I don’t know them in real life – my first and only contact with them has been through fanfiction.net. But I was highly anticipating the next chapter of their chronicle, and if they have to move it out of your community because of someone else’s back-biting and complaints, that’s just less traffic (and page hits) for your server. I would strongly urge you to reconsider this move. It appears (to an uninvolved party) to be ill-considered and vindictive. And, as I have stated earlier, they use author notes with far greater discretion than the vast majority of your community. Coming down on them destroys any appearance of fairness or impartiality on the party of the admins. Yes, I know it is your sandbox, but I’ve run enough message boards to know that once people think the admins are playing favorites, it’s pretty much over. Thank you for your time and consideration, -Matthew Schocke Geeksontap.org

Regarding Pet Peeves...
Just a minor point, yet still, I think, profound, Bob. In Chapter 11 of SoB (interesting the way the initials turned out, no?) you wrote: In response, I'd like to say that I'm something of a fan of Piet Hein and his "grooks", one of which I'd like to quote to you. "Long-winded writers I abhor, and glib, prolific chatters; give me the ones who tear and gnaw their hair and pens to tatters: who find their writing such a chore they only write what matters." 'Grook on Long-winded Authors', by Piet Hein. Granted, some of those 3K authors write 3K of fluff. Others, though... Anyhow, it's just a thought. Ed Becerra

I'm not sure if I am the only one having this problem, but there seems to be no link to chapter 16. the link is there, but it comes up as the document not found - the same issue is on fanfic.net. I am really looking forward to reading it, and hooe you can fix this soon

Digest Number 42
Guys I think it just sucked about FF.net deleted Sunset; I've actually enjoyed it; They deleted my Highlander/Harry potter crossover just cause i had one little author note in there

new place to post
You could try HPfandom.net. They have some really good stories there and their policies are a bit more tolerant. FictionAlley.org is also a decent place to post, but they are very strict about grammar.

An idea
Hi Alyx & Bob, I was very sorry to read of your difficulties. The author of Power of Time RossWrock ran into an identical situation, appealed and got his story put back. I offer this suggestion not to discourage you from finding another venue, rather to observe that FF is an outstanding source of new readers. It's not for me to say if the FF folks made a determination on their own or based on a repeated complaint from an individual who may have taken offense to who knows what. You might not be interested in working with that site any more, but it's an idea to at least consider. They do offer a very nice notification service for both readers and authors, much better than what I found at Snoogle. I realize that it would be very difficult to not take such an action very personally, but it does not reflect the viewpoint of 99.9 percent of your readers. (Watch out for frying pans) Please don't let it ruin your obvious enthusiasm for your hobby. Very best wishes. Scott

A possible posting site
I just wanted to say that a possible posting site for your story could be Fictionalley.org. They have it said up with Schnoogle.com for the novel length ( where your story would fit in), Astronomy Tower.org for the romance fics, Riddikulus.org for the humor fics, and The Dark Arts.org for everything else. Anyway, it's a great place to host fics because they only allow the very best to be posted there and the expect good grammer and spelling and canon accuracy (to an extent). So your fic would be right at home on the site. Just a thought. Tabbi <3

*Sighs* Not again...!
While I appreciate FF.net's desire to enforce its rules and reduce the stress on its servers by minimising file sizes, I cannot understand why they are so rigid and, frankly, mindless about enforcing it. It almost seems as if, soon, the site will be nothing but < 1,000-word semi- literate kiddie-fics that will only be read by the author's dedicated team of squealing sychophants. It seems that FF.net has become a victim of its own success. As fanfiction as a media phenomenon has grown, so the legal pressures on hosts have also grown. Perhaps I can understand it, but I can't help but be disappointed that Xing Li and the team are not willing to put their own considerable muscle in the on-line community behind defending the cultural phenomenon that they originally helped create. Regarding future hosts, you could try Schnoogle, which is non-ship restrictive, or ask Tim (Jeconais) very nicely if he will do a snorkack.fanficauthors site.
