While I appreciate FF.net's desire to enforce its rules and reduce the
stress on its servers by minimising file sizes, I cannot understand why
they are so rigid and, frankly, mindless about enforcing it. It almost
seems as if, soon, the site will be nothing but < 1,000-word semi-
literate kiddie-fics that will only be read by the author's dedicated
team of squealing sychophants.
It seems that FF.net has become a victim of its own success. As
fanfiction as a media phenomenon has grown, so the legal pressures on
hosts have also grown. Perhaps I can understand it, but I can't help
but be disappointed that Xing Li and the team are not willing to put
their own considerable muscle in the on-line community behind defending
the cultural phenomenon that they originally helped create.
Regarding future hosts, you could try Schnoogle, which is non-ship
restrictive, or ask Tim (Jeconais) very nicely if he will do a
snorkack.fanficauthors site.
