Applied Archaeology (AA) is seeking qualified candidates to join our Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas team and we are currently accepting applications for?a senior archaeologist?position. This is a full-time position based on the island of Saipan. You would work as an independent contractor for AA with pay commensurate with experience and educational background. The pay scale is highly competitive.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

  • The archaeologist position is under the direction of the AA Principal Investigator and would involve participation in the planning and performance of archaeological field projects on the island of Saipan;
  • Responsibilities include pre-field research at the local historic preservation office, conducting field projects, providing supervision to local field technicians, overseeing archaeological field projects, and co-authoring written reports of project results;
  • Project types would primarily include archaeological monitoring, with inventory survey, evaluation, burial treatment, and other data recovery projects also occurring on the island.

Heritage Consultants, LLC a Connecticut-based cultural resources management company, is seeking several Seasonal Field Archaeologists for upcoming projects work throughout New England, New York, and beyond. Our company has a backlog of fieldwork that will last throughout 2024 and into 2025. Fieldwork will include Pedestrian Surveys, Phase I Surveys, Phase II Testing Projects, and large Phase III Data Recovery Projects for a variety of different client types.



Qualified candidates must have:

In the role of?Project Archaeologist, we'll count on you to:

  • Minimum two years' experience managing junior staff during fieldwork and report preparation

  • Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures)
  • Must have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks

Southern Research, Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc. is seeking a master’s degree level Architectural Historian for a full-time position. The applicant must meet the Secretary of Interior’s qualifications for the position. Prior experience in historic preservation and cultural resource management is preferred.

The candidate should possess knowledge and proficiency in researching and evaluating the eligibility of historic resources for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Tasks will include:

Compensation

The hourly wage for this project will be between $23 and $27, commensurate with experience and attitude. UES’ preference is for a field tech local to the Knoxville area and its vicinity but will consider applications from non-local techs. UES will provide single-room accommodation near the project area, along with $60 per diem and will provide daily transport to and from the site. Non-local field techs will be responsible for arranging their travel to and from the project area at the beginning and end of the field session. This opportunity is fast approaching so apply today! Responsibilities

  • Conduct shovel testing and pedestrian survey for Phase I Archaeological Surveys under the supervision of a UES field director.
  • Identify artifacts and site boundaries.
  • Record shovel tests and site forms using UES-provided digital data collection systems.
  • Perform cursory artifact analysis (e.g., quantification, attribute analysis, photographs, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to perform manual labor associated with shovel testing, screening, and pedestrian survey in a range of environmental conditions.
  • Attention to detail and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Basic proficiency in digital field data collection.
  • Basic proficiency in navigation/orienting (using a compass and GPS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A BA in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field is preferred but is not necessary if the applicant has one or more years of experience in CRM.

With offices in eight states, CRA conducts all phases of archaeological investigations across much of the United States. The geophysics and remote sensing program at CRA conducts a variety of projects throughout the United States and employs cutting-edge data collection and processing techniques. The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in Anthropology or Geosciences with a background in anthropological archaeology, and a minimum of 1 year of experience with near-surface geophysical field and processing methods. The candidate will be expected to perform archaeological surveys and excavations and execute archaeo-geophysical surveys involving a range of techniques including but not limited to GPR, magnetometry, EMI, and electrical resistance. Projects will also involve the use of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).   • Prepare Cultural Resource Inventory reports and site forms.
  • Ensure that archeology work assignments are carried out in a safe and timely manner according to established standards and procedures.
  • Advise and lead other employees on methods of cultural resource inventory and provide instructions to complete field work and associated field notes in a timely manner.
  • Familiar with the National Register of Historic Places, State Register of Cultural Properties, and New Mexico Cultural Resources Information System (NMCRIS) and the Archaeological Management Section (ARMS).

Field Director and Field Technician Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field.
  • Experience identifying and documenting prehistoric and historic artifacts and features.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work and hike in hot or cold conditions, inclement weather, and remote locations for long periods of time.
  • Demonstrate a positive work ethic, reliability, and commitment to working both independently and in a team setting
  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications for the Field Director Position

  • Preference will be given to applicants who are permitted in the BLM Northwest Region and the Dinetah Region.
  • Completion of an accredited field school or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years archaeological supervisory field experience in the Southwest.
  • Strong leadership skills, decision making, and ability to multitask in the field.
  • Familiarity with Trimble GPS units and site mapping.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading field crews for projects.

The Field Director will be based out of their home location but expected to travel for fieldwork. When not in the field, the applicant will work remotely from home.? Although this position is primarily dedicated to monitoring projects, as workload allows, there would be additional opportunities to work on other types of projects and survey phases as well.

Applicants should be available to travel to project sites within Philadelphia or New Jersey. Projects will be located primarily in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and may also be located in other parts of the U.S. and its territories. The pay range for this position is 29.00 – 36.00 per hour depending on qualifications. The anticipated monitoring projects have per diem and accommodation available. The monitoring projects may require night or weekend work which will be paid at a range of 45.00 – 54.00 per hour. This is a non-exempt position, eligible for overtime.
