HRA projects in Washington State need people!

Historical Research Associates, Inc. (HRA) is seeking qualified field crew for
upcoming field projects throughout Washington State including surveys and test
excavations along the Lewis River in the southwestern part of the state, test
excavations at Ft. Lewis near Tacoma, and surveys and test excavations on the
Yakima Training Center near Ellensburg, Washington.

The surveys and test excavations along the Lewis River are slated to begin
October 4th, and HRA needs to hire six (6) archaeologists. The project
involves survey and testing of archaeological sites in and around reservoirs on
the Lewis River, and the project should last from Oct. 4th to Oct. 24th. The
other projects are to begin later this fall, with the excavations at the Yakima
Training Center coming sometime in the spring.

Short project in SW Oregon

Historical Research Associates (HRA) is trying to find up to 3 crew people for
a 4 day project in Tri City, Oregon, a small town along I-5 south of Roseburg.
The project includes excavation of up to 9 50x50 cm test pits in the ROW of a
natural gas pipeline. Work will begin as soon as an Oregon excavation permit
is secured, which is expected on 9/2 or 9/3. Crew members are expected to have
a good base of experience in Northwest archaeology and a willingness to work on
Labor Day, if necessary.

Position Announcement: Archaeologist/Field Director

Description: Work on cultural resource management projects in northern
California. Specific duties will include conducting literature and records
searches, completing field surveys and identification studies, conducting
archival research, taking field photographs, preparing site and property
records, making site maps, and writing results sections of CRM reports.
Serve as Field Director and assistant to Principal Investigator.

Experience: Meet Secretary of Interior Professional Qualifications Standards
for Archeology (36 CFR 61); any others (history, architecture, etc.) a plus.
SOPA certification and/or RPA status definitely preferred. Section 106
training highly desirable. Really need someone sharp and dedicated with an
anthropology/archaeology/history background; we can work on Section 106
training etc. if you are new to the practice.

Other: Must be willing and able to travel. Firm has three offices in
Roseville (main), Oakland, and San Francisco. Use of personal vehicle
compensated (per mile rates).

Faculty Position

The Department of Archaeology at Boston University announces it is
reopening the search for a faculty post at the Assistant or Associate
Professor level in remote sensing and archaeology, effective September 1,
2000. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in archaeology and have both
research and instructional background in remote sensing (geophysical
prospecting and satellite imagery) and familiarity with Geographic
Information Systems. The geographic area of interest is open. The
successful candidate will have an active research program, a strong
commitment to teaching, and be capable of teaching both at the
undergraduate and graduate level. Courses for which the candidate will be
responsible include Remote Sensing and Archaeology, Regional Archaeology
and GIS, Quantitative Methods in Archaeology, Introduction to Archaeology,
Great Discoveries in Archaeology, as well as courses in the geographic area
